venus thanks for your epic post
what lovely things you think about the planner, and for picking up on it's usp too
:T:T:T
Aww thanks Weezl, glad you managed to get through all my waffle - really do mean every word about how brilliant I think this is. God knows why I didn't join in earlier, am so enthusiastic about it now!:D
Haven't forgotten my article either, still getting stuff together - that's another task for when it gets a bit dull at work!;)
Will try and contain the epicness of my posts - think at times I get diarrhea of the mind and the thoughts just flood out uncontrollably! :rotfl:But don't worry, I'll keep chipping in if you think it helps, will just try to put my inner editor to work a bit more so as not to write a novel everytime I post!
And don't even ask me about the scone testing I was going to do yesterday, or the banana cake... Saturday's distraction from it (mates coming round) was thoroughly enjoyable, yesterday's was NOT - had a whole load of drama with B and baking was the last thing on my mind... especially as part of the monumental row took place in the kitchen, and I'm still clearing up from it now inbetween posting on here... so thanks for the welcome distraction and I WILL get some baking done sometime this week, come hell or highwater!:)0 -
oh, I think I mentioned this before, I've got a nut intolerance (makes me sick rather than die) so I'd be interested in some form of advice on which lunches are suitable to sub for the nut butter and still meet protein requirements.
You already have a section for dairy free. Lactose and nut issues are some of the most common food allergens about (estimated 1 to 2% of the population and rising). I’m not saying that it needs a set of recipes dedicated to it, but in the alternatives bit it would be good if it covered how to work out what you can make more of for the same cost and nutritional value.
If you’re already doing this then ignore me...Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott
It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

although some of the planner lunches are lower in protein than the nut butter, some are higher, with the red pepper hummus for example containing 14g protein per serving, compared to the nut butter's 12g.
So I would say that whilst it might take a little more thinking around (which is a shame as people with allergies always do have to do this) it would be fairly easy to eat the 12 cfr lunch recipes without nuts, so that the nut allergic person would still have lots of variety.
what do others think?
eta ps the dairy-free section wasn't created to help those with allegies, it's not been in our remit at all to date. I just wanted to reassure you that we aren't favouring one type of allergy over another!

We had a lovely e-mail again yesterday from someone who has really appreciated the plan and has been taking elements of it to use with their family.
A few things that Allegra might want to feed back to the Skype team including a couple of suggestions on ways to proceed.
I am unsure whether e-mailers are people who are active on this forum which might make it a little weird to quote them on hereGod is good, all the time

I like the discreet (sp) way you are doing it now.
Do you like christmas pudding?
In all other contexts this would be an utterly fanciful change of subject, but in CFR land, it makes perfect sense

Actually that makes me feel better re the weekend cos it woulda been that!
We are having a few issues with the stuffing:
Main summary: with the dried fruit, if folk like dried fruit, it does really well.
for those who don't like dried fruit (and left it out), it was a bit bland.
Problem, we really do NOT have very much left to make it less bland. An oxo cube and more onion is the best I can do.

Ooh, well I don't know how the whole meal works out in terms of timings but could the onion be roasted with the pork for a bit first, then it would soak up some lovely juices, but probably not enough to steal from the gravy. I can see why people may be against the idea of the fruit initially but wonder if it would be possible to soak it and then mash it up so that you didn't have whole raisins etc...God is good, all the time

Morning All
Weezl re the stuffing, would you be able to steal a sausage from the toad in the hole, take the meat out of the skin and put that into the stuffing?
I know this would mean you only have 7 sausages in a toad in the hole meant for 4, so you wouldn't have two each, but if the sausages were chopped up instead of whole, maybe it wouldn't be noticed?
Just an idea

Hi ariarnia,

yes, I understand, I was just attempting to highlight something that could go in one of the guides. I know a lot of people with dislikes/intolerances/actual allergies that avoid trying something new as it is a fuss to work out substitutions and just wondered if there was any way of highlighting what is comparative to each other rather than them falling back on what they'd normally eat out of habit.
I mean, I assume the brazil nut and seed spread and the nut butter are both there for protein. The easiest thing that springs to mind as a protein sub is either eggs, sprouted seeds, or cheese.
I would have automatically thought of chickpeas as a carb rather than a protein, so I've never really thought of hummus as protein rich substitute for peanut butter.
Not sure why. But for myself I would have subbed in cheese on toast or egg on toast. Neither of which I think are going spare in the planner and both of which might mess up the nutrients, so as the nut butters are 46p I’d prob spend £2 buying cheese or try and steal some eggs (I’m not sure how much a half doz cost, but £1?)
I'm not sure how you feel about this, but it might be part of your teaching to fish thing?Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott
