You'd need to define your level of hardship quite precisely first then... ;)
yes, i see what you mean!:)

    hmmmn that's tricky then.

What if the question was 'I don't need to save that much money a year, can the site still help me?'

    is that any better?

    Hi all :)

I am debating with the idea of adding the question 'I am not in the same level of hardship, is the site still useful for me?'

This raises a couple of concerns, would it be too obvious, and wouild it make higher spenders on groceries feel defensive.

Very interested in any views you have all of you :)

I think that people will pick and choose recipes they find easy. Some will not in the same level of hardship but want to continue to save money. You could post something along those lines on the website but I think it is probably quite obvious.

I hope DD doesn't mind me using her as an example. She and DSIL have decided to choose a few new recipes each week from planner 1. It is still saving them money but they don't have the level of hardship where it is absolutely necessary to follow the plan to the letter.

PB are you back to crimbo testing now? MDW is starting that now so may like to ask you for occasional tips if you like?

MDW can ask me anything :) I am going to go back to 27th today!

I had more but I've forgotten...

    will be back...

I can't make the chocolate brownie today as all the eggs have been used up. I didn't buy the 30 as I have my own hens.

I think the reason Weezl wants to add that to the site is some feedback we have had in the Discussion Time regarding the website, where people stated that they either do not need to save money so therefore the site is useless to them, or that they do not understand the point of the site because even a DMP will allow considerably more money for food.

Personally I think that once you allow DT to run you around you are in trouble :D But that is just me, and not very helpful, I know. I kinda tend to think that if people are against the concept to that extent, they will not be likely to go as far as FAQs, so perhaps best to leave it.

    Hi all :)

Sian I'm sorry I didn't get back to you about testing over the weekend, actually it would have been very useful but real life got in the way :(

No worries, I made lemon bars from the Hummingbird Bakery book and some more cranberry and white chocolate cookies in absence of instructions from you. Sure my workmates are happy if not my waistline! Are there any which need more testing? Busy week for me but I shall see what I can do.

We have a new FAQs page linked from the homepage, which I'm sure sian will appreciate cos it tackles the pesky seasonings ;) but also others may find interesting.

Sounds good to me, means I can signpost any other questioners to your advice not make up my own :)

I like the concept but not the wording :)
Something like "How can I use your site if I don't think I want to follow the whole plan?" . Only worded better!
    , will be back...

    Hi,

I've never posted here before but have been following the thread, told loads of people about it and also read the thread in DT. And as someone kind of outside it have a couple of thoughts (although I'm not 100% sure how to articulate them).

Even though lots of people will have visited the site via this site not everyone will have. So, most of them will have either been pointed your way by someone else (which suggests the new viewer would have some need/desire to have a look) or they'll stumble upon it through searching or via another blog. I guess what I'm saying is that most people that have a look will already be interested or at least have the need to look at sites about cutting back on food costs. In which case people will take what they like and leave the rest. Discussion Time isn't necessarily a place that contains people who'd be interested. If a big spender wants to be defensive or less than complimentary about it then it's just not for them, you can't please all of the people all of the time and so what if you can't? Does that make any sense?

I just kind of get the feeling (and this is jmo) that adding things about levels of hardship takes away from the great positive spirit of the site. It feels almost apologetic, when that's not what it is, it's a big proud - "look at this, what a great load of stuff you can make for this little, who'd have thought, eh?" kind of a thing.

That's just my view on it anyway.

awh pooh pet have another one ! xxx I was wondering about eggy bread. How can you add cinnamon/maple syrup to it , is this not bread dipped in beaten egg and fried ? I add salt to that, and cant picture it made sweet. Mind boggling here - please answer fast lol!

You add the cinnamon to the eggs and pour over maple syrup just before you sit down to eat it.

I've found the site very useful, I have a set amount each week for shopping which has to cover, food, cleaning products, animal food, toileteries etc, whilst trying to teach my 3yo how to eat healthily.

For several months my bill has been at least £10 per week over, and I had a miracle this week everything bought and under budget - it allowed me to buy the ingredients for my brothers brownies without sacrificing a meal for us.

Menu tonight Spaghetti Aglio e Pepperoncino - perfect 10 minutes max start to finish, just what my DD needs after being at playgroup all day.

Hi alec, I'm really grateful for your thoughtful post, and it's VERY heartening to know that you have been an interested lurker.

I did change the frequently asked questions part earlier today, thinking I might as well (in case you think I have just disregarded your view!) but now that you have said that I will certainly consider if there is a better way to word this or indeed if it should be removed.

Please if you have other thoughts, do please post them, this is an open team which welcomes all new input even if it's one post or 200!

Made the salmon pasta tonight - may have gotten a little heavy-handed with the cream :o.

Anyway, it's GORGEOUS. Feels very indulgenty and rich :). I'm going to make a veg side just for personal preference, but with the bread in the recipe it would still be very filling :).
