  • Morning everyone,

I'm just in the process of introducing DD to the delights of eggy bread - with mushrooms instead of sausage as we had that for tea last night.

Pork joint is in the oven.

I have made brownies but not the CFR ones - they are a thank you gift to my brother for all his support during my work troubles, the CFR ones are being done this week too.

I have found willing tasters for the Christmas Pudding, I don't like it personally but my parents do.

Sainsburys have pork joints at half price at the moment.

I did my weekly shop there yesterday as I didn't have time to go elsewhere and with buying some items in their basics range I came in under my weekly budget, which hasn't happened in months.

NOmnomnomnomnom I'd love to be in your house today with all your lovely food MDW. Did your little girl like the eggy bread?

  • weezl, A follow up on the cochons. My family said they would prefer the onions roasted with the carrots and the sausages served separately. I didn't suggest this. They all mentioned it when asked a general question about the meal. No leading questions here :)

DH has done paid work for the first time in months so we bought some meat!! Beef stew and dumplings today! We will go back to using the planner recipes again tomorrow. It is DS1 and DS2 last Sunday here for a while so we have really pushed the boat out!

  • Afternoon all...

Dear oh dear... the choc banana cake didn't get made yesterday :( After spending half the day procrastinating on the net:o, ended up having to nip to Asda anyway (on foot in the bloomin rain too!), then came back and tackled the laundry I'd been avoiding and as I was about to start on the kitchen, B came back with a couple of friends in tow, so it ended up being an evening of pizza and beer (wine for me, I'm a lady! ;)) rather than baking - although they bought the goodies so at least it was still an MSE night in, just not the one I'd intended! :money:

Feeling a bit delicate today but should be fine after breakfast and a brew, and I WILL be back later to let you know how the cake went - also going to do a small batch each of the CFR raisin and savoury scones, have all the ingreds in for those and will take some into work tomorrow (B won't eat them and don't want to scoff them all myself!) so will let you know what they all think too.

Hope everyone's having a great Sunday - it's cold and rainy here in 'sunny' Blackpool so not sorry to be staying in and baking!

Lousy here too, Venus. We are hoping to go and pick some apples this afternoon, if it stays fairly dry - and I need to get away from DD's homework for a bit, too ;)

Been up since 5 this morning - had a dream that the bed was full of huge tarantula-style spiders, and although I am not really phobie about them, they are not my preferred bedfellow, so rather than wake up !!!!!! with my tossing and turning, got up and tackled the kitcheny stuff - so now the chicken leg quarters from the freezer have been poached, chicken, onion and sweetcorn pie (CFR style, only with half the onions replaced by sweetcorn, as I was running low on onions) filling prepped, the pastry is resting, we had chicken soup for lunch, and there's another load of stewed apple stuffed in the crevices of the freezer.

You have been a busy bee this morning! :) I love stewed apple, what will you use it for?

 Tarantula dreams don't sound nice at all! Am a believer that dreams mean something though, so this link might be of interest: http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20061126103315AAVTqzd

Funnily enough I had a very vivid, slightly disturbing dream last night, involving President Obama (?!?!?!?) and well... for the sake of decency can't really say much more other than that I'm still shuddering at the memory of it! Can't stand the guy in real life so God knows what that's about, don't think I want to know!

A friend of mine just posted on Facebook that she had a very vivid dream last night too - must be something in the air...

Anyway hope the apple picking goes well for you Allegra, sounds much more fun than homework despite dodgy weather!
  • Finally got round to doing the brownies and I over cooked then but they are still strummy

    Allegra, tarantula dreams!!
You make me feel so much better. I had a plague of prawns crawling all over my bed in a bad dream a couple of days ago. My family treated my like I was really weird.

Can anyone point me in the direction of the latest brownie recipe as I have just found the chocolate behind the bags of flour in the store, please?

 Oh dear. I am trying to stretch the facts to fit that answer, but failing miserably :rotfl:

Apple picking good, carrier bag full, now I gotta go stewing those li'l blighters ! It never ends, does it.... ;)

Hayley, apple cake, apple muffins, pancake filling, apple curd at some point probably....

Poohbear, I think your dream wins. At least prawns are edible
  • DD, liked the eggy bread. It's something I've always liked but don't make enough :) it's really simple to vary it too - bit of cinnamon and a drizzle of maple syrup = french toast.

Joint is roasted, used the automatic switch off on my oven for the first time in ages as I was out, it's pull apart tender. Didn't do the crackling right but that's my fault for not being patient enought to let the oven heat to max this morning (it heats to 300C but it takes ages).

DD is asleep now worn out by Church and grandparents so once she wakes up I'll do the rest of the roast.

I'll do pics so will be back later.
