Sorry to hear that the buyers have dropped out now, it's their loss as they must be giving up on a house they really want to live in,

Assuming for one moment that this is not a shaggy dog story, the OP has just royally fuçked up. This is a buyers market, and very few houses are unique. The "Joneses" haven't lost anything, in fact they will more than likely find a similar house quite quickly and possibly cheaper.

I can see why they'd be slightly annoyed about everything that's been said about them on the forum, but it was all said in jest and good humour, i'm sure no one meant any offense to them! Besides, if the situation was happening to someone other than them i expect they'd see the funny side of the situation too!! :D

I don't know if you have any pets but an awful lot of people consider them as part of their family. People don't tend to enjoy being mocked when they are grieving, especially if they are being mocked about grieving.

If I thought this story was true I'd advise the OP to eat humble pie big time. And even offer the buyers a financial incentive to complete. Who knows just how long they could be on the market otherwise or how much they might have to drop their price by.

I didn't mention defamation, just that the OP would be wise to try and salvage the sale because he may end up selling for quite a bit less if he has to find a new buyer.

That said, supposedly it was a friend of the Joneses who read the thread, recognised their friends and alerted them. So someone did figure out who is being talked about. (In henpecked'd imagination at least.)

I'd have thought that was quite possible - the scenario was mentioned in Martin's email which has a huge mailing list. So it wouldn't take much for someone to read that and think that the situation sounded familiar and go looking for the thread. (And if that's what happened, to some extent I think Martin would owe an apology as well.)

Running... are you sure you aren't related to henpecked ?????? this is wonderful stuff..... i even believed it the first read-through

i think it was the tescotus which gave it away in teh end !!!!!

I think we should leave running to continue the thread now.

Tomorrow will see my last instalment of the story "the digus uppus". Frankly, tomorrow is going to be slightly awkward if I am honest. The resurrection of the beast and the fact they we all pretty much detest each other.

I have laughed so much through this thread....

It did remind me of when my sister's cocatiel died many years ago. It was winter time & I helped her bury it. We placed him in a farleys rusk box, but his tail was too long so we had to tuck it in. She only had a small torch & a little trowel so we dug as far as we could right outside her back door & put a frog ornament over the top to stop anything from digging it up.... when I had my children I could not give them rusks without laughing about the tail!

if we are talking dead people and children....

a close friend of my mums had her mum die.... her 7 year old son saw the Victorian-style, imitation-marble, 18" high Urn of ashes on the mantelpiece.... and when dad came home asked his dad

"whats in that pot dad" ?

dad subsequently always said " i really should have engaged brain before opening mouth, because what came out was

    "grandma"

dad stayed silent for a while, hoping this was satisfactory

but the child came back with another question

"Did you have to fold her up to get her in dad ?"

out of the mouths of babes.....
