    Update

Well we have returned from being away for the weekend to a letter from our local council director for the environment stating that they wish to gain access to our property on Tuesday 17th at 9am "following recent complaints from local residents concerning a smell in the vicinity of your property and/or neighbouring properties. If you cannot make this appointment please contact Mr XXXXX on 01xxx xxxxxx between 9am and 4pm Mon - Fri"

    Oh goodee.

A post too far;):rotfl::rotfl:you should have quit whilst you were ahead.

Phew, I called up the phone number this morning and he referred to the land behind our gardens. Before we moved in the area used to be industrial and there was last week a methane smell coming through and he is coming to access the gardens closest to have a look as the landowner of the offending land is overseas at the moment.

    For a minute there...

Incidently Your link also says that this is NOT the start of sheffield homes banning dogs from all council properties, but just from one particular block of maisonettes which has a communal garden and a shared access, which is not the same as banning dogs from council flats full stop & this is where it gets dangerous to start throwing links about and scaremongering without reading the full story.

Extract from SHEFFIELD HOMES East Area Board REPORT FOR CONSULTATION 9 August 2010 :
2.1 Condition 24 and 25 of the conditions of tenancy (set out in the leaflet You and Your Home*) states: -
    “Keeping animals
24 You must not keep any animal which we consider to be dangerous or which may cause a nuisance.

25 You must not keep a dog or a cat in a flat or maisonette which has shared parts or a shared entrance. If you live in a small block of flats or maisonettes we will give you written permission to keep a dog or cat if all the tenants who use the same shared parts of the building have agreed to you keeping the dog or cat. If we give our permission we may withdraw it if your pet causes nuisance or upset to any of your neighbours.

If we gave you written permission before 3rd April 1995 to keep a dog or cat in a block of flats containing more than 12 homes you can continue to keep that dog or cat.”

Please note that there is a clear condition that no dogs or cats are allowed in tower blocks. Veterinary advice is that tower blocks are not suitable homes for dogs and cats and if a tenant were to have an animal they would be expected to rehome it or lose their tenancy.

Don't make old people mad. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to p*** us off.

This has actually gone onto Martins email this week. Just seen the preview on Facebook!
    Real life MONEY MORAL DILEMMA:
Should I let them bury the dog?

This week's MoneySaver who wants advice asks...
We're selling our house, and this morning, our prospective buyers turned up to say their great dane had died and they wanted to bury it in our garden as they didn't want to leave her behind when they move. They've put in an offer, but we haven't exchanged yet. Should I take this as a sign of commitment and let them bury the dog, as I don't want to jeopardise the sale?
