No need to change your cards,

RBS = Royal Bank of Scotland but also
RBS = Rotten Bank of Santander

I have a deep burning indifference

    huw01,

I agree with your comments. I first opened my Account at Williams & Glyns in Manchester and have stayed with RBS ever since and found there customer service to be excellent. I feel for the Loyal RBS staff who are the victimes of this EU inspired debacle.

    Ah, thanks. :o

Interestingly though today at my branch I took not a single phone call regarding it nor had a customer ask me about it in appointments.

I too am tempted to open an account domiciled at a Scottish branch.

If you transfer to a scottish branch is it a easy transfer? Is there any further credit checks at all?

    Not usually.

Checks when opening additional accounts are usually internal.

    Just some info for people.

I'm in a kind of mirror situation, where I'm a Natwest customer in Scotland and my account is transferring to Santander. I just called telephone banking and they informed me that my branch can send me out a form to fill out that will transfer my account to Carlisle (or wherever) that will allow me to remain a Natwest customer. The advisor told me that I will receive new account numbers and sort codes, however all the facilities I have currently will be unchanged (overdraft, full visa debit card etc).

The situation is the same in reverse, absolutely.

Just as a Natwest Scotland customer you really are one of the select few!

I have had a good relationship with RBS and wish to continue as their customer not as a customer of Santander. Who would wish to choose to be their customer ?

Vernon has an account with Santander ;)

I imagine it would be easier for everyone in England to switch to a local Natwest branch rather than move their RBS account to Scotland. Natwest's online and phone banking are virtually identical, as are most of the products - except Natwest actually offers better savings interest rates. Also, if you ever need to pop into the branch for something, it would be much easier to pop into the Natwest down the road than have to jump in the car and drive to Scotland to find your nearest RBS :P

Luckily, you can do RBS transactions at your local Natwest. :)
