Info on RBS website.

Interesting that the one FAQ missing is How do I transfer my account from an english/welsh branch to a scottish one?
Have just phoned the 0800 helpline. They don't have a lot of information, just what is on the website that they will repeat but can't really answer any other questions.0 -

Hardly surprising considering earlier posts in the thread i.e. if customers transfer now to a Scottish RBS branch (or any other bank) then RBS will be paid a lot less for this deal.
It would be much better for RBS (and therefore their customers who want to stay with them) to wait until the deal is finalised as regards price, and then have its English & Welsh customers transfer - thus putting the boot into Santander ...0 -
I think that we should all move en masse before Santander get their claws on it.
I'm really disappointed that this has ended up like this, the whole point of the Williams and Glynns sell off was for competition reasons and was seen as a foothold for a new entrant to the market.
What did we get El Banco Santander
Once these 300 branches are intergrated there will be a lot of branch closures due to duplication and a lot of empty high streets where once you had Abbey, B&B, A&L and RBS0 -
Option 1 - Move Account to NATWEST branch as there systems and products are identical to RBS.
Option 2 - Move Account to RBS Scottish Branch which is unaffected by the sale.
RBS Telebanking and Internet packages are so good it doesn't really matter where your account is held.
I don't know about Santanders Internet Banking but feedback on the forums doesn't look good0 -
huw01,
I agree with your comments. I first opened my Account at Williams & Glyns in Manchester and have stayed with RBS ever since and found there customer service to be excellent. I feel for the Loyal RBS staff who are the victimes of this EU inspired debacle.0 -
The Problem with waiting for the deal to go through is that by that time the Customer service teams will be overwealmed by transfers out. Changing banks now sends the clearest message to Santander who, judging by the A&L and Abbey complaints on his forum have no concept of customer service. Their products might look cheaper on the best buy tables but your time and phone calls will soon outweigh the savings.0

I signed up with RBS 25 years ago and said they would keep my account until they did something wrong - today it is time for me to leave!
I phoned RBS today and told them that I did not want any of my personal details passed to Santander - I asked where I had to write to with this instruction. To my surprise they took my details there and then. I was told that they had recorded my request and would acknowledge in writing. (Note too the phone was answered in a few rings despite everything that is going on!)
If like me you are going to move somewhere else - think about opening the replacement account now even if you don't transfer your existing accounts for 12+ months. This way the "new" account appears on your credit record as being established for longer.
If you are thinking of trying Santander do check out the survey on this site and of course the user feedback. If you are still not sure take a look at the faster payment limits (same day transfers) - RBS £10k internet or phone compared to Santander £300 per day phone only! source - ukpayments.org.uk
It may change in future but I ask you, is this service?
If you are still determined to try Santander then at least get some cash for it - transfer now using a cashback site £35 plus £100 from Santander - could be £270 joint (wonder if there will be a welcome bonus for RBS customers in a year? I think not!).
If you do risk Santander ..... may the force be with you!

Just now applied online for a current account at one of the Scottish Branches. Over the next year or so I'll start transferring incoming Standing Orders etc to it so I will be ready to close my original RBS Account by the time Santander get their hands on it.
Might be the first of many account closures over the next 12-18 months0 -
I have been a Natwest customer in England for over 40 years and I would be really annoyed if my account was sold off to Santander, I quite understand why RBS customers are upset.
What is the advantage to this country to force RBS to sell some off it's branches to a foreign competitor? It seems madness to me; I just don't get it!0 -
