The sale also includes the few NatWest branches in Scotland.

Most of the English and Welsh branches of RBS have a sort code starting 16-xx-xx, if that helps.

So if your an rbs customer in england what immediate effect will this have, does this mean that the rbs account holder would be a santander account holder ?, or is it a much longer drawn out process, could the account holder get thier account transfered to a scottish branch or would they need to open a new account?
    For everthing else there's mastercard.
    For clampers there's Barclaycard.

I would imagine it would go along the same lines as the A&L and Abbey transfers. Everything would continue as is for now (especially whilst they sort out the A&L mess) and then sometime next year the new branches would get migrated over to Santander sortcodes and the branches would be rebranded at the end of next year.

  • I'm glad that I went to NatWest instead of RBS, even if they're part of the same group. I'm glad to be rid of Santander I couldn't stomach being dragged back into their domain. *shudders*

Scary thought to end the night with....

In a few years time, this country will have just the one company that does everything. It'll be called......

    Santantesco!

Regardless of Santander's reputation, I find it complete hypocrisy that these large banks are being broken up to form equally large banks. Was it my imagination or were these divestments not meant to increase competitiveness on the high street?

Clever business tactic, if you can't win customers over with good service, buy their current banking provider instead.
Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.

    Absolutely spot on.

So the plan is to move from predominantly British based banks (e.g. RBS/Nat West) to a massive multi-national operation - Santander.

I suppose they might as well give those Lloyds TSB branches to HSBC and have done with it then.

    Ridiculous.

    Well done EU!
