RBS Branch Sale Announcement

as i stated in another thread, I will move my account from my local RBS Branch in North Wales to a scottish branch.
There is no way I'm being part of Santander , I was unfortunate enough to have to deal them once they subsumed a Christmas Club which I was treasurer for which used to be with Abbey. I will never deal with them again.
Anybody know what's the procedure to move your account from on RBS Branch to another or do I have to close the account and open a new one with a Scottish Branch ?
If you live in Wales and move your account to a Scottish Bank (which it looks like RBS will exclusively become), which law will apply to your assets with the bank and your relationship with it? The law of England and Wales or that of Scotland? Probably not a problem for day to day running but possibly awkward if you died. Probate and Inheritance law is substantially different and you might need to make 2 wills as English and Welsh wills are not valid in Scotland.0 -
Would you need to do anything if you have payments coming in (i realise its a long way of) If they are planning on changing sort codes etc.
This could be a right mess!!!For everthing else there's mastercard.
For clampers there's Barclaycard.0 -

Oddly enough, the new sort codes for A&L customers aren't much of a problem. Either the new or old sort codes work. So I wouldn't worry about it.
It's just everything else that happens with the migration that seems to be a problem (especially internet banking access).
You never know, when it comes to migrating the RBS branches over they might have learned something from the A&L migration.
Then again, I wouldn't hold my breath.Remember this: nothing worth doing is easy.0 -

So the plan is to move from predominantly British based banks (e.g. RBS/Nat West) to a massive multi-national operation - Santander.
I suppose they might as well give those Lloyds TSB branches to HSBC and have done with it then.
Ridiculous.
Well done EU!
Could you explain what the bailout decision by the British Government and the sell-off conditions imposed by the British Government have to do with the European Union?
I'm really not seeing the connection.
Still, best not let something like the facts get in the way of an anti-EU moan, right? :rotfl:0 -
The British government conditions were partly influenced by the EU competition authority's position. It is sickening that instead of increased competition, which is much needed, we just get a further spread of the Santander plague.0

RBS might decide to use the Kirkwall, Orkney branch for such people...0 -
Where one's "branch" now has little relevance in today's world of electronic banking unlike say in the 1980's.
I used to work some distance away from where I now live and my account is still today "held" at this branch some 100+ miles away.
I have never moved it and I've never been inconvienced by it.
It does have the added advantage that the branch cannot ring me up and offer a "savings review" if I'd like to drop in sometime!0 -

The applicable law will be stated in the T&Cs of your account.
Most accounts I have (but not all) state that if I am domiciled in Scotland then Scots Law will apply and if domiciled in England & Wales then the laws of England & Wales will apply.
Like I said, check the T&Cs.0
