MOT Failed - Garage Couldnt Repair It?

Hi Everyone
My car went in to Kwik Fit for an MOT Saturday, i was told to get it there at 8:30 sharp as it was booked in for the first MOT.
By 2pm i hadnt heard anything so i rang them, was told they would get someone to ring me back. At 4 i went down there because i still hadnt heard.
They told me it had failed because the 3rd brake light (the top one) needed a new bulb and so did my left side brake. They said they cant replace the top bulb as they dont no how and they cant replace the left side as they had no bulbs left - bearing in mind Halfords is next door, cant really see why they cant go next door and get a bulb. I asked where repairs the top brake, they said they dont know.
So basically it failed - they said i would have to pay for a retest if it is not fixed and back to be tested tomorrow - they can only pass it within 24 hours of me taking it from the garage for free.
Went to halfords, they dont change the 3rd brake light incase they break it, So basically i either do it myself or go fords. This was now 5pm and all Fords are closed, none open sunday.
I ended up fixing it myself, it works fine now, took it back to garage yesterday and they said they dont do MOT tests on Sundays so i will have to bring it back today, and pay for it.
Surely they shouldnt be doing MOT's if they are incapable of fixing something, it only failed because they didnt know how to change a bulb! And if they had told me at 10am i could have got it to ford and back, rather than telling me at about half 4 by the time they got the car back to me.
And as for paying for a retest - it was their mistake, and the car was fixed within 24 hours but they dont MOT on a sunday?! Should i phone Head office? Are they legally allowed to MOT if they cant fix everything? I was under the impression if something had failed the point was the garage can fix it

Silly Question
why did you not check the lights before putting it in for the MOT, its one of the few thing you can check. The handbook should tell you how to change the bulb.0 -

firstly it does not surprise me kwik fit struggle with tyres let alone anything else, could train a chimp to do a better job.
not sure on legalities concerning any repairs needed to get it through MOT.
not sure what the timescales for retest are but a car of mine failed on no BS number or postcode on number plates, soonest i could get it back to them was 5 days later they still did it free, personally i would speak to the centre manager first and politely request free retest.if that fails pay for it to be done and get in touch with head office as i think they should be doing it free especially as they were unable to do the repairs in first place.0 -
as everyone should know by now kwik fit are hopeless
you dont have to be a qualified mechanic to be an mot tester
always worth checking lights/washers and wipers before presenting a car for test0 -

Even sillier, why take a car to Cr*pfit for an MOT, the TS was lucky to get away with it just failing on brake lights. On a serious note, I would contest the retest fee surely it's not the TS fault that the spanner monkies at Cr*pfit were incompetant.
I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -

I knew the bulb had gone, i was under the impression the garage could repair it. Its not that simple to replace - might be for you but i have no idea. I changed it first and it blew - you arent allowed to touch the bulb apparently well noone said that to me so i had to change it again.
I have changed it, but why couldnt they check the handbook?! They have a better idea than i do!BCT:[strike]£16,500 [/strike] £0 HFC CURRYS: [strike]£520[/strike] £0 HFC PC WORLD: [strike]£800[/strike] £0 ARGOS CARD: [strike]£795[/strike] £0 ADDITIONS DIRECT: [strike]£625[/strike] £0 NATIONWIDE CC: [strike]£1560[/strike] £0 VIRGIN CC: [strike]£1500[/strike] £0 :j0 -
I can't believe you have been drving around in a car with 2 out of the 3 brake lights not working, and not noticed this. Checking brake lights is easy, even on your own - just reverse close to a wall, put foot on brakes, look in mirrors - what's difficult about that?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

I did notice, i cannot change the bulb - i took it in for the MOT, for them to change the bulbs too. Two birds one stone. But they couldnt change the bulb either, so obv not that easy!BCT:[strike]£16,500 [/strike] £0 HFC CURRYS: [strike]£520[/strike] £0 HFC PC WORLD: [strike]£800[/strike] £0 ARGOS CARD: [strike]£795[/strike] £0 ADDITIONS DIRECT: [strike]£625[/strike] £0 NATIONWIDE CC: [strike]£1560[/strike] £0 VIRGIN CC: [strike]£1500[/strike] £0 :j0 -
in that case you should have said , my car needs an mot , but ive noticed ive been driving around with 2 out of my 3 brake lights not working , can you change those first please
they would have then explained what a useless sack of poop they are and you couldve gone elsewhere
lesson learned maybe ? never go to quickfit , and check over and fix any obvious faults before the next test0 -

And an even sillier question, why on earth did you take it to KF anyway, you'd have better going to KFC:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Yes I know the question has been answered, just spreading the word.;)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0
