My garage told me you have 10 working days under VOSA rules to take it back......perhaps its only on certain items

in that case you should have said , my car needs an mot , but ive noticed ive been driving around with 2 out of my 3 brake lights not working , can you change those first please

they would have then explained what a useless sack of poop they are and you couldve gone elsewhere

I did, they asked if there were any problems i wanted them to check out, i said yes the top brake light has gone - i didnt no about the other one. They didnt mention it would be a problem!

It doesnt matter much. There is no requirement for them to be able to fix MOT failures. As said you can return it up until the next working day so get it fixed and do it today.

They are quite right about 3rd lights though as many are clip ones that break easily and they obviously dont fancy having to replace trim every time this happens.

Did you never wonder why people were flashing and honking at you? I bet you leave your rear foglight on all year round too..........

Perhaps if you can't be bothered to check that your brake lights work once every week or so then you shouldn't be on the road in the first place!!!

They're easy to check even on your own, just back up to your garage door or the nearest wall and apply the brakes.
Brake light bulbs take minutes to replace, even a monkey could do it, something crap fit have in abundance!

I mean..... what if you had to brake sharp for a small child running out from behind a car? YES you'd stop, but the guy behind could plough right into you, pushing you into said child!

Checking them is not the problem, I cant find anyone to fix it. Noone was flashing or honking, the back one went out a week ago - i didnt no about the second one so must have been recent. If even a monkey could do it, why did 3 places i tried say no they dont do em.

And i cudnt really care less if u dont liek the fact i didnt have a brake light, dont reply then. If someone went into the back of me then i would pay for it obviously.

Well done ! Everyone else is more interested in putting the boot into the OP rather than helping them.

You will have saved the OP £54 by putting that up - a gold star is on its way !

Not everyone ;), some of us where trying to clarify the issue for the op and everyone else.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

A lot of us here take pride in the fact we keep our cars fully legal and in good condition, and we are not best pleased when we see other people cannot be bothered to make the same effort. Particularly with safety features such as stop lights which are important to tell people you are braking. I am sure many of us carry spare bulbs and have read the manual for our car which details how to change the bulbs.

I used to flash at people with dud brake lights, for example if they were on all the time or not working whatsoever. Now I don't bother as I assume the person in the driving seat is unlikely to figure out why I am flashing and they'll probably assume it's for some aggressive road rage type reason.

You can be given a fixed penalty for faulty lights, and telling the officer you knew about it but was waiting for MOT time to get it fixed wouldn't work well.

I can be bothered!? Different people have different abilities, i have no idea how to change a bulb. I do not check my bulbs every day, it is not top of my list of priorities. I knew my light was out a week ago - the MOT was booked for saturday, i had work Monday to Friday so couldnt get it to another garage and KF were full until Saturday, so the fact i left it a whole 6 days - cant see how i am classed as not caring if it is legal.

3 different garages didnt know how to change the bulb so cant see how i am expected to know this?! I have no idea about cars and dont claim to. I am sure there are things you have no idea about and wouldnt attempt to do yourself even after reading how. Every site i found said you could brake the light - im pretty sure thats more serious than having a bulb out.

Thanks for everyone that answered my query, will not be taking it to KW anymore!

You used to flash and honk because you thought you were some sort of plastic policeman. I'm glad you gave it up.

If you were behind me and you were flashing and honking at me you'd get the universal wrist based signal for many of the tools that frequent our roads. Doing what you did is unnecessary and aggressive. The person in front doesn't know why you were flashing and honking, for all they knew you might be trying to get them to stop so you could car jack them...

Leave broken brake lights to the Police to deal with, the OP takes that risk, not you.
