Hi peeps, just popping in after a long absence to say hello, and let you all know that the Coast to Coast cycle challenge that I was banging on about so much at the start of the year IS TOMORROW...
(picture of the course, and our punishing training regime on the link below)
http://leecarl1974.blogspot.com/2010/09/actual-course.html
Itinery is:
Thursday --> Leave Manchester by train at about 13:00,
Get to Barrow-In_Furness at about 15:00,
Cycle to Ravenglass (18-ish miles) and camp for the night,
Friday --> Leave Ravenglass and cycle to Port Carlisle (76-ish miles), camp for the night
Saturday --> Leave Port Carlisle and cycle to Hexham (62-ish miles), camp for the night
Sunday --> Leave Hexham and cycle to South Shields (50-ish miles)
Meet mum and Mrs GP,
Have tea, jump in car, come back to Manchester
The original group of 8 people have all dropped out one by one, and now there is just two of us doing it. All plans for a support van (to carry the gear) have fallen through, so we'll be carrying everything in rucksacks and panniers.
If you could all start blowing the rainclouds AWAY from the general direction of Cumbria, the Pennines and the Northeast for the next four days, it would be appreciated.
Hope everyone is ok?

Hope you're well.
Blimey, reading the above makes me think someone has well and truly swallowed and inwardly digested the AA Big Book!
- Meant with the utmost respect, but what do you actually *do* when you feel like a drink? (or do you not get cravings any more)
I would love to go back to AA, but I really find it difficult to relate to most of the guys there.
Cheers fella,
Sim
I do like the Big Book. It's worked for many people, and it's good enough for me.
I very rarely want to drink now. If I do fancy one the thought goes very quickly.
However, in my early days, if I had a craving I would get to a meeting or pick up the phone. Sharing that I am having a hard time makes things easier....don't know why, it just does.
I am sure that not everyone in the meeting is unlikeable. I thought that sometimes, but I realised that I was the one with the issue, not everyone else. I am glad I went back to meetings as it would be a massive shame for me to drink again becuase of my pride. And drinking again could have cost me my life0 -
Lovely to hear from you GP.
If you check in before you leave then good luck with the cycling. Congratulations on your persistence, we love that on here;)0
