One Night Pledge (Tues):
DecemberBabyAnyone like to join us - EXTRA SPECIAL OFFER - 2 nights only Weds to Thurs challenge ?I'm happy to list one night only if anyone just wants to pledge for today! This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.

I am absolutely fed up with this drinking business
I've been reading Liver Sober since Sunday whenever I've had 10 minutes spare and it says that it's unwise to set yourself goals, it's better to not drink for that day or even that hour or for the next 10 minutes, it then even says if all these are too much then just don't drink whilst you are reading that page! This is to obviously break it down and make it all more managable.
This is where my problem lies.....I want to break it down into 10-15 minute sections today but I leave work, go to offy and buy alcohol, go home and drink it. If I left work and went home without the alcohol, then this in itself would trigger panic and cravings. If I left work and went to offy and left alcohol in car, then it'd be singing to me all night long. What am I gonna do?
I could and have said to myself in the past, that I won't buy any now but if I really want to then I'll go out to shop later. If I do decide I want to go out and get some later then this could and has previously caused a very uncomfortable evening because I couldn't think of a justifiable excuse to go to the shop. I can't afford to make this worse than it's gonna be otherwise there's more chance I'll have vino collapso, to steal a phrase
Yes, yes, I know, I'm making all too much out of this, but I don't want to drink today and I get the whole not drinking for the next 10 minute thing but I don't know how to give myself a chance of doing it.
My main problem is getting home with no alcohol, the draw to the shop is so strong it's practically impossible to ignore. I don't want alcohol and I don't want to stop but I always pull up and go in anyway. My mind is saying, 'you'll regret it later if you don't get any now'
It is very important that I have an AF day today and tomorrow as OH is out on Friday and Saturday and if I drink tomorrow then I won't have any strength to stay AF when he's out and so I know that the weekend will be wiped out.
Feel like crap
Nothing changed with my drinking until I changed myself. I needed to change myself to rid me of the desire to drink. Wanting to drink and denying myself was a horrible way to live.
My illness is alcoholism, and it is a disease centered in the mind.
Until I was ready to go to any lengths to stop drinking, I was not prepared to change. When I was ready to do anything to stop, then recovery could begin.
It is not always pleasant or easy, but it is better than the existence (not life) I had while drinking.
What I learnt was that if I did nothing different, then nothing would change. I was killing myself slowly (active alcoholism is a slow and painful form of suicide), and bringing others down with me.
It doesn't have to be like that now, but the nature of disease meant that I needed to drink every single drop, spend all that money, wet all those beds, have all those warnings from work, etc to want to stop enough that I was willing to change.
Until I reached that point, there was no advice, no books, and no-one that could help me.
I reached that point before I lost everything, thank god.
I took a long time to appreciate that I had hit my rock bottom. I now hope others hit theirs sooner rather than later.
Good luck on your journey Jo - we are all rooting for you.0 -

Is there anyway you can change your routine after work. I know you have kids to sort etc but could you go swimming, park, anywhere something that takes your over the brink as it were?
Do they know that you are trying to stop? My DS's loud proclamations that 'You can't buy wine you don't drink anymore' used to mortify me in the corner shop but they worked!
Maybe having something written down. In your handbag, maybe one of your really low point posts printed out, so that you can read that when you feel the urge maybe with a post from someone (maybe you) that was really positive and upbeat.
I think for me the change came from not saying 'I can't drink tonight' but instead after weighing it all up 'I didn't want to drink tonight' (well I might of wanted to but I didn't want to have a progressively worse drinking habit and that won over the day)
There's a rebel in all of us that when we say we can't have something we say 'Well I'll bloody well show you I can'
You can have a drink tonight. Of course you can. But do you really really want one?
Good luck hun.
