    I'm home with no alcohol.

    Yay that great!!!:T
  • I can identify.
It was a Groundhog day existence until I did something different. Just hoping it would change never worked for me. The only thing that changed was that things were gradually getting worse. I needed help.

True surrender meant me doing something about it.
Nothing happens because of me feeling different.
Change happens because I did something different.

    Good luck Clarabell13

    Hiya Graeme,

    Hope you're well.

Blimey, reading the above makes me think someone has well and truly swallowed and inwardly digested the AA Big Book! ;)

    - Meant with the utmost respect, but what do you actually *do* when you feel like a drink? (or do you not get cravings any more)

I would love to go back to AA, but I really find it difficult to relate to most of the guys there.

    Cheers fella,

    Sim

    Oh feel really bad :(

DD1 just begged me to drop her to the station as she's running late for a date. I had to say no, then gave some ridiculous excuse.

I can't be trusted 'out there'....

365, thanks for the PM :) xx

  • Hiya Jo,

    Big Hugs to you!

I worry a lot about people on here who mention driving, when they're drinking in the evenings..

Having been convicted years back for it myself, I cringe when I hear people say they're fine, 'cos they've only had a few the night before (yet some of them could easily still be over the limit the next morning).

    Please be careful!

    Sim xx

I am absolutely fed up with this drinking business :(

I've been reading Liver Sober since Sunday whenever I've had 10 minutes spare and it says that it's unwise to set yourself goals, it's better to not drink for that day or even that hour or for the next 10 minutes, it then even says if all these are too much then just don't drink whilst you are reading that page! This is to obviously break it down and make it all more managable.

This is where my problem lies.....I want to break it down into 10-15 minute sections today but I leave work, go to offy and buy alcohol, go home and drink it. If I left work and went home without the alcohol, then this in itself would trigger panic and cravings. If I left work and went to offy and left alcohol in car, then it'd be singing to me all night long. What am I gonna do?

I could and have said to myself in the past, that I won't buy any now but if I really want to then I'll go out to shop later. If I do decide I want to go out and get some later then this could and has previously caused a very uncomfortable evening because I couldn't think of a justifiable excuse to go to the shop. I can't afford to make this worse than it's gonna be otherwise there's more chance I'll have vino collapso, to steal a phrase ;)

Yes, yes, I know, I'm making all too much out of this, but I don't want to drink today and I get the whole not drinking for the next 10 minute thing but I don't know how to give myself a chance of doing it.

My main problem is getting home with no alcohol, the draw to the shop is so strong it's practically impossible to ignore. I don't want alcohol and I don't want to stop but I always pull up and go in anyway. My mind is saying, 'you'll regret it later if you don't get any now'

It is very important that I have an AF day today and tomorrow as OH is out on Friday and Saturday and if I drink tomorrow then I won't have any strength to stay AF when he's out and so I know that the weekend will be wiped out.

    Feel like crap :(

This will be no help to you at all but....... last year, when I was trying to get back in to running, we made a pact in the office that 'Wednesday was running day'. No ifs, no buts. This took any 'decision' out of the equation and no matter how carp any of us were feeling, or how demotivated anyone was (lots in my case), we were still out there.

Could you apply the same logic, somehow? If you take the decision-making part out of it, then there'll be no offy dilemma, and probably no bells, as there's nothing to have an internal dialogue about. You AREN'T drinking today. End.

But don't worry. Someone will be along withsome practical, useful advice in a minute :o

    Lurkio -

    Love your attitude.

I think the trick is not giving oneself a choice!

Easier said than done though, as I know only too well :o

    Cheers

Is there anyway you can change your routine after work. I know you have kids to sort etc but could you go swimming, park, anywhere something that takes your over the brink as it were?

Do they know that you are trying to stop? My DS's loud proclamations that 'You can't buy wine you don't drink anymore' used to mortify me in the corner shop but they worked!

Maybe having something written down. In your handbag, maybe one of your really low point posts printed out, so that you can read that when you feel the urge maybe with a post from someone (maybe you) that was really positive and upbeat.

I think for me the change came from not saying 'I can't drink tonight' but instead after weighing it all up 'I didn't want to drink tonight' (well I might of wanted to but I didn't want to have a progressively worse drinking habit and that won over the day)

There's a rebel in all of us that when we say we can't have something we say 'Well I'll bloody well show you I can'

You can have a drink tonight. Of course you can. But do you really really want one?

    Good luck hun.

BTW cat had 5 kittens last night on my bed!!! Very cute!

    Spot on 365days! :T
