When I bought the bike last year it was a bit of a slog, and I've made sure that I've done a lot of training to get ready for this. In the process, it's actually become one of most favourite things...so I actually feel like a bit of a fraud doing it for charity...I always thought doing something for sponsorship should involve a great labour, or overcoming a fear of something....not something you actually like!
Anyhoo, I've stated to put together vague plans for a long cycle next year. Glasgow to Inverness, and then back down along the side of Loch Ness. About 250 miles, ish? Plenty of time to train if anyone wants to hop on board!

Is there anyway you can change your routine after work. I know you have kids to sort etc but could you go swimming, park, anywhere something that takes your over the brink as it were?
Do they know that you are trying to stop? My DS's loud proclamations that 'You can't buy wine you don't drink anymore' used to mortify me in the corner shop but they worked!
Maybe having something written down. In your handbag, maybe one of your really low point posts printed out, so that you can read that when you feel the urge maybe with a post from someone (maybe you) that was really positive and upbeat.
I think for me the change came from not saying 'I can't drink tonight' but instead after weighing it all up 'I didn't want to drink tonight' (well I might of wanted to but I didn't want to have a progressively worse drinking habit and that won over the day)
There's a rebel in all of us that when we say we can't have something we say 'Well I'll bloody well show you I can'
You can have a drink tonight. Of course you can. But do you really really want one?
Good luck hun.
BTW cat had 5 kittens last night on my bed!!! Very cute!
I wish I could press thanks button more than once on this one - well put indeed.
OMG - now I want to have a kitten.....
Still catching up but better get some work done as well..."Everything will be alright in the end. If it's not alright, it's not the end."

There was a time when I didnt think I could get to my 3rd day of not drinking. The first day and second days were a real challenge and I enjoyed the challenge , but the 3rd and 4th days were killers. I`m now at a place - hopefully - where I can go for days and days without drinking but knowing that if an event does come up where I am drinking I can get back to non -drinking for normal hum drum days asap. One of the most liberating things about not drinking on a daily basis is the driving. I live in a village where if you dont drive your practically stuck, as public transport is a bit rare round here. When I was drinking I was trapped. Now I`m not drinking I can nip here and there, just pop out, pop here and there, pick the kids up and not have them rely on very unreliable buses to get them home or even worse pay very expensive taxi fares for them to get home from their mates or force them into a position where they are having to stay round a friends as its too late for buses and mum`s been on the wine. I feel really good and normal............wait a minute, what is normal ? SHAGGY 18 AF DAYS FOR ME PLEASE, TRASIJ0

That's where I've got to as well trasij (did you ever tell us where your unusual name comes from?). It's a good feeling. My rule is no drinking on 'humdrum' days but I think maybe I've had too many 'events' lately. I'm pleased that my life is full but I would like to be closer to cutting down by half than the third I usually hit. If I'm honest, although it's half the days it's more than half cutting down because I definitely drink less on 'drinking' nights than I used to.0 -

Definitely no offence intended SSG. Perhaps if you could tell us when your 'weak' points are then we could be around more to help? Like, with jo it's getting past the shop. What pushes you SSG?0
