  • Well everyone thanks for the hugs!!!!

As helen keller (or someone else) said

The only way out is through....

    And I will get through

    Just don't know when

    Still drinking

    Sorry

    YM yu are a disgrace!!!!!

    I love it!

    I am fine and dandy

    In a manner of speaking

    HBut i will survive

    XXXXX

PS where is GC with his words of wisdom?

    I'm here.
    Was away over the weekend.

They are not my words of wisdom, just things that I have heard from wiser people than myself. I have very few original ideas, and often the ideas that I have are pretty bad ones!! (I now run any 'good' ideas past other people as my judgement has not always been great)

I can only tell you my experience, and that was nothing changed for me until I changed myself.
And will power was never the problem - I had tremendous will power when drinking (and wanting to drink). My problem was that my will was misdirected, and I couldn't correct it by myself.
Tomorrow (the day I would always said I would stop drinking) never came when I tried to do it my way.

    Take care
  • Hi everyone. Popping in with a score of 5 AFD's now please Shaggy. Another lovely night's sleep last night, it's worth not drinking just for that alone! Thanks again for the pork recipe Jo, it was gorgeous. You all made me giggle with your porky innuendo yesterday. Off out to a fashion show tonight - tickets were £5 to include a glass of wine - hope they're doing soft drinks too for us non-drinkers (ooh get me!). Bye for now and have a lovely evening everybody.

Mookie - I just love your avatar :)

6 for me please Shaggy :)

Bit blaah today. I guess I was hoping to have as productive day today as yesterday and it hasn't exactly happened. Couple of things on the list that can't be put off much longer so better get on with it.

  • Hiya everyone,
Am creeping back with my tail between my legs :( After being AF for ages, circumstances beyond my control meant my only option was to move back in with my alcoholic ex in May - BIG mistake. Couldn't hold back when surrounded by beer and jumped straight back on the wagon, and into freefall. However, have now moved out (2 days ago) and am on my own again, thankfully. AF for 2 days now and already feeling the benefits.

I stupidly thought that I could handle controlled drinking and a few beers a night wouldn't do any harm - Am I insane?!?!?! After drinking like a fish for the last 25 years, you think I would know that it is impossible for me. So I'm limping back to you inspirational guys to try and help me keep on the straight and narrow. I've also met someone who has been clean for 13 years with the help of AA, and she has changed my mind about it all, so I'm currently trying to find a meeting that suits me. Although it is proving difficult as I work 60+ hours a week (shifts) and study for at least 15, but I'm sure I'll be able to fit at least one a week in someone.

Anyhoo, talking of studying, I have an essay due in on Thursday, and am horribly behind due to putting the beer and my mood swings first, will catch up with you all later and thanks for being there.

  • Hiya all,

Hmm where to start? Well...I was on here last November. Was feeling strong and upbeat then and stayed AF till Christmas. Then it was straight down the slippery slope again. A couple more bursts of AFness, followed by yet more and more drinking and now here I am. Shuffling back into the thread and trying to find the determination to pull my life back together.

Little steps are the way to go for now I think. Today was a good start anyway, only one bottle of low alcohol cider :)

Off to read more of the thread and see what everyone's been up to, then an early night for me. See you tomorrow!

    Clara x

Today is AF day 6 for this month and 14 days in total since the 23rd August.

The voices i my head are saying "good on you, see you can do have a drink as you can stop anytime easily" I am not falling for that one!!!!!

I wouldn't call it a struggle as it would be easy just to have a bottle of wine but this is a long time goal for me and I must not succumb to temptation ;o)))

    Best of luck to everyone.
  • Morning everyone! Thought I'd pop on here quickly before I get ready for work. Welcome back sian and clara. I too shuffled back on here last week after a short AF time but slid down the slippery slope again. Thank God for this thread and all the people on here, it's so reassuring to know that we're all in the same boat. It's not easy trying to be AF when alcohol is everywhere and if you have a partner who drinks regularly - but it's not impossible either. I'm determined to be AF for good cos I think it's the easiest way - someone posted on here only the other day that trying to cut down is so much harder cos you feel like you're denying yourself whereas if you make the decision not to drink at all, all that "shall I, shan't I" is gone - and that's the way I want to be. Just to think "No, I don't drink any more". On that note, I shall go and get ready for work, this is my new routine getting up really early so I can take the dog out for a walk before work. Have a good day, everyone.

What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.
