So you are saying I cannot:

    Boil kettle
Make say 3 feeds up in sterilized bottles within 30 mins of kettle boiling
    Immediately store in fridge
Warm as required within say next 8 hours?

the guidelines don't advise this.. i think its because the bacteria can grow in the feed then you won't warm it enough to kill it off before baby has it

i don't like the words can or cannot as you 'can' do anything you like :)

As far as I know (and I'm sure someone will be along to correct if I'm wrong) the baby that sadly died in Belgium was due to meningitis linked to the bacteria, after that the WHO etc changed their advice thankfully it doesnt appear to have caused a death in the UK.

if you want to take in your own feeds you can.. as long as you sterilise (will have to be the cold water one but that won't make any difference)

I have bought (totally non MSE, ) ready to use, no sterilizing required disposable bottles/teats/feeds/ to prevent the dreaded cold water thingy :D

you should most definitley not do this.

it unsterilises the bottle or equpiment

but if you don't sterilise i don't suppose it matters?!

You misunderstood.. it was meant as an ''either/or'' not as an 'it is ok to do so' comment.

the bottle is not sterile the second it is removed from the steriliser.

i would be surprised if anyone in the maternity unit has a problem with this, in fact they will be rather pleased that you are saving the NHS some money there :D

sorry, still don't understand then :o

its not an either/or.. the safest way is to use straight from the steriliser

rinsing under the tap before you use is unsafe for baby

never warmed bottles for any of mine, I keep cooled boiled water in a flask and make up as I go. I also use dr brown bottles.

Oh and I sterilise up to six months. None of mine ever had a tummy bug under one year.

But how unsafe is feeding them residue from the steriliser? cold water sterilisers you have traces of the bleach used to sterilise in the milk which has been found in the baby's gut.

You bath the baby in the tap water.. how unsafe can it be?

I think it is taken WAY too far TBH.. I can understand saying to practice good hygiene.. etc but how far do you takeit? Some people are still sterilising stuff at way over a year old.. and it is totally unnecessary.. there does need to be some hard guidelines rather than leaving it all to supposition which it often is.

Anyway, I intend being totally vile.. I am stuffing an unsterile boob in my baby's mouth lol.. probably followed by an unsterile pacifier!
