I was told that warming the milk (EBM and then formula in our case) was to make it seem more natural to the baby (as breastmilk would be warm) but also because their body will try to warm any cold milk itself to aid digestion - using up vital calories that help baby to grow. Andrew now has his morning & evening milks warm, but the daytime milks are room temperature.

We warm ours up, baby prefers them hot actually :S

I make them up for the next 24hours, i just put the water in the bottles and in the fridge, then we heat the water in the microwave, put in the powder and shake very well to mix any hot spots.

Ooo well I thought I'd have a quick flick through this thread to see if there was any new thoughts since I had DD 7 years ago............and am more confused than ever  :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I think I'll stick to what I did with her.....I know it and she seems to be ok. All this "made within 30 mins of kettle boiling" and "70 degrees" business is hurting my head already, and I've got 12 weeks to go!

Made daytime feeds up in the morning, in fridge til required. Repeat in evening for night time feeds.

The only concession being last time I warmed in a jug of hot water.....this time I have been given a fangdangled digital bottle warmer.........;)

Apparently after 30mins its cooled to 70degrees. I left it for 30 mins and it was still very hot, to hot for me to touch actually.

Yes it all seems very scientific, which I am sure is important, but it really wasn't before, I would rather trust my own judgement than be trying to calculate stuff at 4am after having had no sleep.........that would be when I was likely to make mistakes. I'll stick to my wrist testing method :rotfl::rotfl:

Same here. At first i aimed to be a good mum and make it fresh, when i discovered that leaving it in the fridge wont kill her and that it meant more sleep for me then i was all up for it :D

Only downside is that when you shake it then test it on your wrist, the pressure builds up in the bottle and i get covered in milk :p

Can the breastfeeding police lay off? formula has saved the lives of hundreds of thousands of babies since it was invented, and it is really is an adequate substitute which plenty of babies do just fine on.

They can't. I'm not quite sure why not, they have this obsessional need to put FF mum's to attempted shame :rotfl::rotfl:

I'm going to become bottle feeding police I think :D

I used to make bottles up, put them in the fridge... and DS would have them cold straight from the fridge!!!:rotfl:

I'm very happy to say he is very much alive with no awful diseases and all limbs intact;) And he still loves me:D

I think all mums get into their own routine that suits them and bubs... whether it be making bottles from fresh, reheating etc etc.

I warm bottles before giving them to my son but I don't make them as warm as I used to because he's quite happy to have them cooler. Also, I was in hospital with him recently and they offered me the option of heating them but were quite happy for the babies to have them at room temperature.

I make up 6 bottles at a time (boil kettle, leave to sit for half an hour, fill bottles, cool, put in fridge) and heat them as required in a ceramic pot with boiled water from the kettle. Though, I am a bad mummy during the middle of the night feeds and use the microwave (25 seconds does it) and just make sure that I shake it really thoroughly to get rid of any hot spots.
