sh sadley true, which is y we are debating it and it gets so many responces
Why is it "sadley true"? Or do you think that it's right for a person about to have a fit to have to attempt to walk across a busy car park? (or just recovering from one, very confused and has no idea what on earth is going on) Or a blind person to have to walk across a busy car park?Sealed pot challenge #232. well the person fitting would not be running /carrying shopping ? and dont need a wide space , do blind need a wide space or a close space.

nice to see someone making an effort to debate the problem though:beer:0 -
A blind person may need more space to get out of the car - especially if they have their cane and /or guide dog with them.
The person fitting would need somewhere to go, (possibly hospital) especially if they've hurt themselves. I've hurt myself having a fit before and suffered migraine for around 2 years because of it.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Not sure why you keep mentionign bigger spaces, the blue badge page on the direct.gov website clearly states
The Blue Badge Scheme is an important service for people with severe mobility problems that enables badge holders to park close to where they need to go.

supermarkets are now not puttting b/b spaces just close to the doors because they were being used by anyone to dash in quick,
the spaces are being spread out in the car parks to help this problem0 -

Could I just point out that you can be in receipt of a blue badge without receiving DLA. My father has a BB, has never been in receipt of DLA but did have to undergo a very thorough medical before he was granted his BB.
He is also able to walk, albeit with a stick, but also needs a wide space as he has to have the door as wide open as it can go to actually get in and out, close to where ever he is going to, the result of an accident in 1972 (he has received an industrial injuries benefit since), 3 heart attacks and two strokes.
There have been times when I have taken him shopping (along with my mum) and he has gone back to the car whilst I have nipped to the loo, anyone seeing him sitting in the car waiting for me to return, could assume he has sat there all the time instead of for a minute or two until I get there. The badge though, has been used correctly, it has been for his benefit, he has got out of the car...but him sitting there would be down to me and my weak bladder demanding I go to the ladies before setting off home again.
Re wide spaces, if no disabled spots are available, I half pull into a normal spot and my parents will get out (my mum has to help dad get out of the car) and then I will park normally...the process is reversed for getting back into the car.
As for being put off applying for a BB, I know exactly where the poster is coming from.....I still have days once in a blue moon where my mobility is not too bad and it is the worry that someone could berate me on one of those good days that I have not applied for either DLA or a BB, I would be stressed about being called a fraud! We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
