sh sadley true, which is y we are debating it and it gets so many responces

Why is it "sadley true"? Or do you think that it's right for a person about to have a fit to have to attempt to walk across a busy car park? (or just recovering from one, very confused and has no idea what on earth is going on) Or a blind person to have to walk across a busy car park?

A blind person may need more space to get out of the car - especially if they have their cane and /or guide dog with them.

The person fitting would need somewhere to go, (possibly hospital) especially if they've hurt themselves. I've hurt myself having a fit before and suffered migraine for around 2 years because of it.

Actually I know a woman who has fits (she is an epileptic (sp?)) and after she has had a fit she becomes very confused. She has in the past had a fit after shopping, going home and was with her dad who is her carer. After she came to she didn't know who her dad was and thought it was a perverted old man after! She ran off from him in a busy car park. She is a danger to herself and others around her that have to help in situations such as that! She is a 51 years old, has had these fits since birth, is mentally challenged and will never get any better. She has a BB but would you take her badge away from her? She doesn't always have fits after all but they can happen at any time without warning. I think she is deserving of her BB even though unlike me she doesn't have a constant physical disability.
I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy :D
  • Not sure why you keep mentionign bigger spaces, the blue badge page on the direct.gov website clearly states

The Blue Badge Scheme is an important service for people with severe mobility problems that enables badge holders to park close to where they need to go.

I think I’ve saved us BB holders another space if pwales says he only needs a wider space to get out of his car if you go to the furthest corner of the car park will almost sure to see 2 empty spaces together so why don’t you use one space to park in and the other space so you can get your wheelchair in close so you don’t end up on the floor again. And this saving the BB spaces for the people that need them because they have limit walking.

supermarkets are now not puttting b/b spaces just close to the doors because they were being used by anyone to dash in quick,

the spaces are being spread out in the car parks to help this problem

Could I just point out that you can be in receipt of a blue badge without receiving DLA. My father has a BB, has never been in receipt of DLA but did have to undergo a very thorough medical before he was granted his BB.

He is also able to walk, albeit with a stick, but also needs a wide space as he has to have the door as wide open as it can go to actually get in and out, close to where ever he is going to, the result of an accident in 1972 (he has received an industrial injuries benefit since), 3 heart attacks and two strokes.

There have been times when I have taken him shopping (along with my mum) and he has gone back to the car whilst I have nipped to the loo, anyone seeing him sitting in the car waiting for me to return, could assume he has sat there all the time instead of for a minute or two until I get there. The badge though, has been used correctly, it has been for his benefit, he has got out of the car...but him sitting there would be down to me and my weak bladder demanding I go to the ladies before setting off home again.

Re wide spaces, if no disabled spots are available, I half pull into a normal spot and my parents will get out (my mum has to help dad get out of the car) and then I will park normally...the process is reversed for getting back into the car.

As for being put off applying for a BB, I know exactly where the poster is coming from.....I still have days once in a blue moon where my mobility is not too bad and it is the worry that someone could berate me on one of those good days that I have not applied for either DLA or a BB, I would be stressed about being called a fraud!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

at the Sainsbury's my mother goes to, there are 2 entrances. the BB spaces are halfway between the 2, with lots of spaces much closer. so not rubbish or drivel at all.
