In my case you are sort of correct. The only time I do it (it being go to s Supermarket) is when I go to the Tesco extra. The distance between the BB and any other spec a inside to store is so vast. I can get around to the first few aisles, then hobble on my crutches to costa-a-lots-for-coffee and wait until the family have done the other 4km around the place and rejoin me. We get home and it's morphine time and the sofa. So I see your logic, but I do it to feel some part of normal and a semblance of my former life. Btw, I only dream of asile 44!:D

As I posted on the pip discussion, I believe the new rules proposed will drop the amount off BB's greatly so it might not be a problem for much longer as the amount on HRM will lose both the BB and cars.

shows how little you understand the BB rules, why would the Driving (and) Vehicle licensing Authority be interested in BB abuse?

At least pwales "limited mind" can get that the DVLA has sweet F A to do with ignorant people abusing blue badges wether they are abled bodied blue badge bay abusers or disabled people who allow their blue badges to be abused.
Ok Why dont you enlighten us all with the Rules of the BB, exactly what does a BB entitle? I always assumed (rightly so) that a BB owner was entiteld to park in a BB bay.

Mum (and I temporarily) use the stick to get safely from the car to the door of the supermarket over what can be an uneven or slippery surface. if she expects to be walking on an even surface, Mum doesn't always take her stick out of the house. I can't actually use my stick in a supermarket because I then wouldn't have a free hand with which to lift anything into the trolley: apart from the inconvenience of not being able to move it away from my body, I mustn't lift anything heavier than a coffee cup in that hand.

so yes, mum does use the trolley for balance but she still needs her stick to get to and from the car. as I'm sure do others in the walking stick brigade!

heck, I use TWO sticks when I'm out 'proper' walking, but I fold them up when we go into the pub for lunch, as do all my walking friends. we probably skip in and out too, but just watch us crawl up hills!

it's all according to circumstances, and at the risk of repetition, you can't tell by looking at someone why they need a BB / a wider space / a wheelchair / a walking stick or sticks / crutches, nor can you tell by looking whether they need to use mobility aids all the time / some of the time / indoors / outdoors / only on a bad or very day.

I think the point is that BBs are not issued by DVLA, nor policed by them. except (perhaps) in so far as if you have a motability car with the free tax then there are limits on how the car can be used. so DVLA could be interested in possible abuse of the free tax, but not afaik in abuse of the BB.

DVLA couldn't give a hoot about the BBs I've used, because they have been issued to non-drivers by the local authority. and that is used, NOT abused, just for the record!

Sorry but the same applies to you. You need not be intelligent to understand the very simple concept of the BB scheme, whether you agree with it or not. Its really as simple as "I have this badge that entitles me to park here". Thats it really, no matter what degree of disability you think others should have.

Owning a BB is the ONLY qualification needed to park in a BB bay. It seems your understanding of this very basic rule and of others disabilities is just as embarrassing.

No its embarassing that anyone these days can get a blue badge.

But change is a coming :)

Have you undertaken any research with Hospitals or BMA as to the number of people diagnosed with conditions that are classed as being disabled?

People think modern science cures all but that's far from the truth.

I'm part of the 'walking stick' brigade, damage to my legs occurred the year before last as I contracted Lyme Disease, somedays I lean very heavily on my walking stick, somedays are slightly better.

All I can say is that I am beyond grateful for my Blue Badge, I have limited energy daily and my Blue Badge has enabled me to efffectively manage my days and the amount of walking I do.

I also work full time and travel a huge amount re my job, I bought myself an automatic car in order to continue working, I get no other assistance re my disability other than my BB....it has been a life, job, functioning saver.

BTW my walking stick which I also bought myself is a funky colourful one, so for those that stare, they can see the pretty colours.:D

How is it "a joke"? I'm disabled due to a genetic fault. My dad became disabled at 43 due to a (different to mine) genetic fault.

Currently, all my disabilities are incurable.
