How is it "a joke"? I'm disabled due to a genetic fault. My dad became disabled at 43 due to a (different to mine) genetic fault.

Currently, all my disabilities are incurable.

Because the proportion is way over the ratio you expect in a developed society. In other words there are a lot of hooky claims!

Too many people with illnesses are claiming to be disabled for financial gain.

What is "disabled". If they still issued the blue three wheelers with no cash alternative, it would be funny how many people would end their desire for HRM!! As another poster says, the sign has a wheelchair, not an able bodied person who has full use of their legs and limbs!!!!

(tin hat on for the abuse to come from certain quarters or interest groups)

So, is a person who has full use of their arms and legs not disabled them?

Blind people have full use of their arms and legs, yet it's unsafe for them to walk across car parks and the like.

What is a "?" does it pose a question? Am I asking what is disabled? Yes I am.

    Oxford says "- adjective
    incapacitated
Synonyms: broken-down, confined, decrepit, disarmed, hamstrung, handicapped, helpless, hurt, incapable, infirm, laid-up, lame, maimed, out-of-action, out-of-commission, paralyzed, powerless, limited ablility to walk normally

In reality, no. But if you can walk, do so, just don't take the pee and take up a place when or if you're able to! Nothing else.

Mobility is much more than about walking. What about safety? One group who are entitled to a BB are those with uncontrollable epilepsy. You really think it's safe for them to walk across a car park when at any time, they could fit and put themselves in serious danger?

    No. I don't. I am posing a question. There's a difference.

If it's unsafe for them to walk across a car park then they should be accompanied, possibly by the person who drove them. I have seen blind people cross roads and navigate their way through busy town centres unaided, I'd consider that a more dangerous place.

Read my other posts please. They also need the extra space.

Sorry, I fail to see why. A cane is not exactly huge or cumbersome, indeed a lot of them fold away. If they have a dog then I'm sure the door doesn't need to open fully for it to get out/in.

What about very large people? They need to open their door wider than most people. Should they be allowed to use BB spaces? No, of course they shouldn't but they still manage to get to the supermarkets somehow.

Doesnt really matter what we all think because the time is coming when all will change.

11 million people disabled in this country ,what a joke.

Is that the amount who claim DLA or the total amount of people who have a disability including those who claim DLA and those who do not?

I only ask because all 3 of my boys are classed as having a disability but only one claims DLA plus some would say I have a disability (the Job centre being one of them!) but I disagree (my brain doesn't quite want to accept it) and I have never even attempted to claim for it.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I hope so. Where I live in North London the BB is very much abused by minicab drivers. I have no idea how they get hold of them but most drivers I have seen seem to be fit young and healthy.
Citizens are encouraged to report them and there has been quite a few prosecutions by the council.
Last month my BB was stolen from my car. It was found within 8 days displayed illegally on another car. Unfortunately for the driver, our wardens have the power to ask to see the picture. lol
