Thanks Kethry that' really a good idea! I will do tha instead as cutting the pattern for the sock shape seems a bit tedious for me...I am actually well behind on all of my projects as I have been working nights this week . I now have to socialize on my only day off before I go back on day shifts ( we have been invited for dinner at a friends house and I am actually bringing the pudding...Well, II have another chance on wednesday and I hope I could get cracking with at least someof my projects...

sheng719: i'm making christmas "stockings" too, only, as we don't have a proper fireplace to hang them from, i'm making .. well i suppose you could call em christmas sacks. They're for adults, rather than children, with small things inside em so they aren't very big, but they're made of patchwork squares. the idea is that they looks as though they came from a 70s santa's workshop kinda thing. lol.

thought i'd pass that on, maybe you can use up scraps the same way...

right... that bleeeeeeeeep quilt is now finished.. with lots of swear words (well the bobbin ran out of thread about 30 cm before the end of the last last bit. wouldn't you swear?).... so i took photos of *everything* and am posting them here.

In order not to flood the thread with pics.. I'll post links rather than actual pics. I'm only posting the sewing stuff here - I'm posting other picture / tree / card stuff elsewhere (on the appropriate threads).

anyway, what have i got? now, sing along with me....!! <breaks into song>

"on the first day of christmas my true love sewed for me...
........a christmas runner with matching napkin rings!

on the second day of christmas my true love sewed for me....
........two emergency sewing kits and a christmas runner with matching napkin rings!

on the third day.. oh bleep this. it'll get too long. I sewed:

    - a christmas runner with matching napkin rings
    - two emergency sewing kits
    - five christmas sacks (aka stockings)
    - 1 kneewarmer (for a lady with an arthritic knee, demo'd on my knee)
    - 12 lavender bags (to go in undie drawers)
    - a lot of rice warmers in different sizes, made from a wool/cashmere blend
    - 1 lap quilt for my gran (with a photo of mine for comparison)

that's not all i sewed, but the rest i can't show cos the recipient reads this board (and if she reads this thread i bet she's thumping her fists on the desk saying "rats"... *grins at lightisfading*).

    how'd everyone else doing?

you're welcome, but tell you what, make it even easier for you: scroll up to the post above this one and look at the link for Christmas sacks, as you can see i abandoned the patchwork idea and used felt instead.. they look pretty good and are *much* easier to run up as felt doesn't fray, so no hemming needed.

if you want proper instructions on how to make them, then yell.

    good luck!

Well, you've put me all to shame! I started the thread and I've hardly done any sewing at all. But I have two weeks off work from next week, so I hope I can get some done then.

I'm determined to do some though, as I've got a dress to make for a friend and I'd like to finish it before I finish work for Christmas.

The weekend flew by  I started the Christmas pinny, but still a lot of work to do - and it needs to be delivered to the recipient next weekend, so I need to get my skates on. My 'dummy' has arrived - Dorothy is her name - and she is lovely, also some patterns for summer frocks and separates for my jollies.
Will post a pic of Dorothy modelling the pinny when it is finished :D

must say i wish i had your talent at this kinda stuff kethry!
  • Kethry, your sewing kits are beautiful - are they gifts? - A great idea for gifts!

I forgot to check in on sunday, but I managed to finish a patchwork cot quilt for my niece. I started it in July when she was born(!) Then lots of other projects got put on top of it, I got distracted etc, etc.

So its finally finished and in the post for christmas!

Now on to my cords that still in pieces...

tallulah - yup, they're gifts! I made them from felt (same as i made the sacks with) and bought one of those multi-packs of sewing supplies from a pound shop and divvied the contents up between the kits. it worked well, and didn't take too long to make, a couple hours at most. And because they're felt, i didn't need any hemming or anything like that, which really helped.

and lightisfading: i *knew* you would read this thread!!!

*smirrrrrrrrrrrrks*.... you wait till christmas, young lady!!! (i'll have words with Mr Lightisfading and tell him to take BOTH parcels off you!)
