  • Ha! I finally managed to find an instruction on how to make a demin skirt out of old pair of jeans!!! I was really excited as this means new skirt coming for me and my daughter...unfortunately, it would be an additional thing to add on top of my sewing to do..but never mind...

  • Hello all!!

I got a dressmaking dummy about a month ago to go with my sewing machine which I got for Christmas, so am hoping that my mum is going to show me what to do with it and how to cut a pattern next week. I've been making some cute little felt bags but can't wait to be making my own clothes!!

these threads are brilliant!!! Off to post on Liz's Knitting thread now!! :D

Hi Jen, that's great news, hope you have fun making something - do you know what you're going to make yet? I think I started with a skirt all those years ago, mostly straight lines and a zip to practice so a good 'first'. Good luck! Hope you get on OK

You may remember my sewing challenge from a couple of months ago.

I know some of you wanted to join in, but missed out, so here's another chance.

If you'd like to join in, simply post what you plan to sew and we'll all report back on Sunday evening.

    Here's my list:

Hem, seam and finish a wrap dress
    Make 2 wrap tops
Add cuff to 1 pair of trousers
    Make 1 pair winter trousers
    Make 2 pairs summer trousers
    Make 1 summer dress

This list look slightly feeble in comparison, but here goes:

Cut out interfacing for shirt already cut out, then sew shirt
    Cut out needlecord shirt
Cut out and make two wool jersey skirts (trying 2 new patterns)
Cut out slightly complicated Vogue jacket in mohair

I have my cutting-out table up (a real indulgence, but £30 well spent to allow my back to allow me to keep sewing)

got the following to make for christmas pressies (and realising today is the 1st has given me a right kick up the backside to get moving on them!), so by sunday i want to have done the following:

    1
    • drawstring bag
    • 1 zipped bag
    • 1 plastic bag recycler
    • bunch of rice bags / lavender bags for smellies
    • christmas runner (I have some christmassy cloth that needs hemming to make a table runner)
    • possibly some napkin rings from the scraps
    • last (and if i get this far it'll be a miracle) make a start on the quilt i'm making for my grandmother for christmas (I got the patchwork front part done, just got to tack the whole thing together, then machinequilt it, and bind the edges.)

    see how i get on!
