  • Helen, that is not idiotic at all, We have had no central heating for about a year and intermittent hot water and we don't get it fixed cos the spare room looks like the back of charity shop and the bathroom was disgusting. I am painting the bathroom currently and considering the spare room as the next project.........in 2012!

We never have people over and one time my friend needed the Loo - I said she could so long as she came downstairs to wash her hands cos the bathroom was so horrible!

It has taken ages for me to do this. I feel knackered at this point but happy that it is underway finally.

Hi DC _ I would second the take it apart suggestion - it sort of goes together like lego- I washed the centre bit of my one in the bath. Tesco's do a cheap one 36.99 like a dyson if all else fails - actually don't they do a replacement/repair service/lifetime gurantee?

  • Buffy/Helen TY, I am going to investigate the lifetime Dyson thing, before I take it to bits, see my solution when things break is to hoover them, I had a PC that had an intermittent fan problem, and the dyson fixed it. Can't really do that this time can I ?

Have to phone council re fridge, and call HMRC re change of circumstances with DS1, pretty sure that will be one of those long time on hold calls.

I do sympathise with you both on bathroom and boiler front. Our old boiler was 15+ years old. We had an insurance policy on it over £200 a year, but was absolutely useless when it broke down Xmas Eve 2008, 2 weeks no hot water or heating, it's all about the 'parts'. Hit -7 degrees early January. *Shudders.*

Right well this won't get things done will it ?

    Hi,

Just found your diary! Jealous on decluttering, I need help too! I'll come back a bit later, I must rush now!
  • Well clearly I asked the universe if I could waste a whole afternoon on the phone to hmrc, got the too busy message 4 times, engaged once, eventually in the queuing system for 25 minutes, for 6 minute phone call that will mean a big drop in my tax credits and a major change to my budget. But having been on the wrong side of them before and having to pay back loads I'd rather be one step ahead. Looking at it as weaning myself off them because I really, really loathe them.

I thought I'd prepare the dyson for it's work out in the utility room, really not sure whats going on. Looked at all available spaces that could get blocked and it seems free from any collective dust/dirt. Putting it back together rear flap fell off, big hinge came out of socket, and couldn't put it all back together without lots of huffing and puffing and trapped fingers. Therefore the decluttering got shelved this afternoon, just means I have to do double tomorrow.

Sat down with the budget and from September I will have £200 a month for groceries. Things are going to be tight. I have to hit these figures, no excuses, no overdraft, no s*d it takeaways, no waste, no willy nilly wandering around waitrose just for milk and spending £15, and let's face it, no smoking or drinking.

Am thinking of adopting the envelope system, but I shop online at Mr T's, thinking cap....

This is only going to be until Feb 2012 when the massive £301.11 a month loan finishes. But of course the universe is well aware of my request for a F/T position locally, so there is lots of scope for improving the situation.

Right what you all been up to today ?

You can do too much thinking when cleaning windows! I too would love a clean oven. My major issue though is that my window cleaner stopped doing the outside when one of them moved, so I'm scared to do them too.

My vax is a lovely ornament in my hall. I would love to use it, but its sooo noisy.

Oh DC sorry your afternoon didn't go as planned. How annoying when the world seems to conspire against you. Sometimes I think it's better not to plan to do anything then amaze yourself at how much gets done.

    Hope tomorrow is more successful.

  • I had/have a migraine. So nothing aside from being really ill this morning and then sleeping thankfully)

re envelopes, I am going to - from September have mixture of clear pencil cases (nicked from Hypno's thread) and savings accounts to allocate money.

Hang in there DC, what you did today was important even if it was annoying!

  • TY Polesalot. After long hot bath, I have decided what the universe really did was take into consideration my fear of the spiders in utility room and ensured they can all move out before I start in there. Happy spiders, happy me..

    See positive spin :)
