  • Oh My Word what a month !
Life really does throw the unexpected at you doesn't it ?

Left old job of 4 years, on last day an outside contractor heard of my departure, suggested I give her a call as she would love to discuss a possibility of a position for me.

Current new job of 4 months,( hmmm well if I'm not honest with myself then I can't really get anywhere can I ?) Thing is I don't really truly like it, the job is okay, just I don't actually agree with a lot of what goes on. I know turn a blind eye. But in truth I know I'm not going to stay, not taking it too seriously.

So I call contractor, visit and I think what a lovely atmosphere to work in. It, again, is a new path for me, not a career I have considered before. I have a couple of days with them this week. It means a 45 hour week this week, with the two jobs but you know got to be in it to win it. There isn't a vacancy as yet but I'm thinking they must know there might be ? I'm very hopeful as I could get my weekends back and no more silly o'clock starts.

I really am juggling the finances here, am menu planning, but my downfall is now lunches - £3 when I'm on a 10 hour shift. (no real staff facilities at present job). But utilities bills are only half paid, and the lovely council tax bill has just arrived. The CC are all getting minimums.

I'll get through it though, I always do.

Hellooo!!!!! def worth keeping your options open re any future job - you've got nothing to lose by doing so and you have potentially a lot to gain. It certainly sounds promising, and they obviously like you already. Fingers crossed there.

10 payments on the loan? That means that after the next one you will be in single figures (good at maths, me!) and it really will feel as though you are on your way. Keep going, you are doing fine.

Lunches at work - this is where I fall down too - no reason for me not to take food in from home but somehow I never manage it for more than one or two days a week.....can you take salads and sandwiches etc - doesn't have to be all lettuce and cucumber but tuna pasta or spicy couscous or something? Even if you only do that twice a week, that is a few ££ saved.

  • Agree with all that Hypno ! I have always taken lunches in - until starting this last position. Absolutely nowhere to put anything lunch orientated ! Only space is the back of a door with a few coat hooks on it for bags/coats. Is one of the reasons I don't 'love it' there. The conditions behind the shop floor really are a H & S nightmare. (And I'm a get on with it girl stop moaning sort of person, but this is really quite alarming !) If you are on your break you are better off sitting in the park - which I do :)

Yep 10 payments of £301.11, if I put a £1 away a day the last payment will be done - with change !

My final loan was at £317 a month, and the difference that it makes now it is paid off is amazing each month. It is what enables me to actually have a "life" :D

Putting £1 a day away for that last payment is a good idea!

As for the lunches, it sounds a pretty poor place to be, but think of it as a holding position, just until that better job comes along. It won't be forever.

  • See this always happens, I stay away from the boards for a while - usually guilt induced due to overspending - I come back for an hour on a Sunday morning and I am full of motivation/inspiration again !

Now lets get this thing started again.
    1) £1 in a pot - every single day between now and end of loan from hell - 17/01/12
    2) Stop smoking.
    3) An old one this but works when I actually do it - declutter at least 2 items a day from house.
    4) Ebay/Amazon at least 1 item each day.
    5) Keep up with surveys, am very close to £50 on YouGov.

Just these few things will increase productivity in financial area, it works, but I just have to get off my a*se and do them !

Hello, I was thinking about you just the other day and wondered where the heck you were. Shame about the current job but is it better than the last? If so just see it as a bridge to the next. With regards the lunches, although you have only a hook to store things can you at least get a little cool bag (you know the kind kids have) and keep sandwiches in there? (I would have said butties but that might be a bit common for you being from Dorset and all). Sounds promising with the other job and I agree to keeping options open.
Great news being near to £50 on yougov and I love the thought of saving £1 per day towards your loan payment. With regards the smoking I have just been talking with somebody who wanted to get a great dane (she used to have one) and said that she was aiming to give up smoking so that she could save up to be able to afford one. She was going to rescue one. I suggested that if she gave up smoking then saved the money and didnt have the dog then she might be inclined to start smoking again, but if she had the dog then she would be encouraged not to start again because she HAD to find the money to feed the dog. I suggested this because I had a friend who did this to buy a car and 20 years later still isnt smoking. Is there anything that you really want that you could divert the money to in order to stop? it helps if you have a motivational factor to stop and sometimes the health reasons just dont cut it.

Anyway, glad you are back and look forward to hearing more soon. By the way how is your doggy?

  • Hi Cheri
Been catching up on you, and Wow ! You are going great guns :)

I have no regrets on leaving old old job...was going downhill in every aspect.

Smoking, sigh, you know I know it is purely a mental association with me, nothing physical, can stop but then something just sets me off, and with me there is always something ! I just use it as an excuse or a reward. Can quote the wonderful author Allen Carr all day because I know he is right, but I'm in and out of this nicotene addiction like a yoyo.

Re the butties -I am a London girl at heart so butties are fine :) I will figure the lunch thing out.

Doggy is a rascal, but love him to pieces. He has green paws today after the first cut of the lawn yesterday !

    Back to ebay listing.....
