Same here. I had all my ambition knocked out of me when I worked for a major high street bank. I now work for a private bank, in a beautiful location, 20 mins drive from home. I don't enjoy the work but I enjoy going to work (if that makes sense??!) I would rather be doing something else but I know that I am far more fortunate with my work circumstances than other single parents I know. I would like to be a painter and decorator or a property developer but I have neither the money or the guts to give up what is a very well paid (for local) job. At the moment I have to think about security for my DD.

Oh poles a female painter and decorator...there is a very successful one locally and is much preffered to some of the builders bum affairs ! But maybe one day poles ?

I say that and then in the same breath have to tell you DS1 has just got apprenticeship in that trade. The perks he tells me are lots of home made cake !

Poles, I have used a female decorator in the past. She actually worked part time and did the decorating as a side thing because she loved it. She did say that she had started to turn jobs down because she couldnt fit it all in. She was thinking of going full time. I completely understand the security issues when you have children. They are such a responsibility and I would say that if you have a child then that is the most important job in the world and the one that gives the most rewards so anything you need to do to be successful at that must be done. I guessed you worked somewhere nice from all of the runs. I also completely get the liking going to work as my last job I loved my colleagues we had a great life, just the work bored me. I really miss them now.

DC - is the job interview competency based and are you swotting like mad on lots of examples for them? I am sure you will do really well. It will be nice to go somewhere that people dont know you and all of your business.

Excited and Sick at the same time. I am going to try to forget about it because I think if I am not accepted I will be very disappointed. But as you say, the universe is at work. What is for us wont pass by us. I will pay off my mortgage and you will be driving 3o miles by the end of September:j OK a quote coming on

  • Ok Poles, it's a deal. I have it in writing on my diary, you don't know what you have let yourself in for !

Not really sure what the job interview will be based around. Doing my homework on the trust involved, and data security. It's not quite an office job, though more of a courier role. Doubles my present salary so am thinking very positive. As for going to work and being bored I totally relate to that, mind-numbingly so.

If you had to give examples for skills on your application then the majority of the interview will be geared towards bringing out more information about that. This type of application and interview is known as competency based and most NHS trusts and government departiments do this kind of interviewing nowadays. I like this type of interview because it means that from an interviewers point of view you can draw the best out of people and find out those that have made up the examples. From an interviewees point of view it means that you can go into the interview prepared to answer more questions around the examples and also have other examples lined up to support the different competencies. If you have never come across this before and want any help or advice then just let me know. I have been trained in recruitment using these methods. Good luck

Have had two showers, got drenched walking mad dog, is that fine light rain that I actually don't mind too much, but it's pretty persistant.

The lawn is looking like something jedward would love, but that's not doable today (do I sound secretly pleased ?) One day I shall have a beautiful low maintenance garden. And not have this ongoing battle with the flymo or whatever it is.

I have 4 boxes that need to go into the loft - yes I know I'm supposed to be decluttering it- but my plan is to get those 4 up there and bring 'some things' down. Bearing in mind I don't actually know what is up there :o.

That in itself could take up three hours.

I have not listed on ebay for a week, don't feel like it today though.

My £30 cold hard cash for groceries and such like has gone, infact it doubled itself and dissolved. Admittedly two BMX inner tubes for DS2's BMX were included.

I'm going to keep plugging away at stopping silly spends, because it's still £15 over my intended cashflow without bike bits, and I'm only two weeks into grocery budget.

So what take another £30 for two weeks ?

Am v excited re interview, really want this.

Am reading 'the power of now', quite hard going in general, have to reread alot because it falls out of context in places. But for someone like me who is hanging on to the past and is scared of the future there are some interesting concepts. There is a lot of Feel the Fear in there.

    Right more tea needed.

Never quite understand why men get obsessed about lawns

Bearing in mind I don't actually know what is up there :o. prepare yourself for memory centre. I have just brought lots of things out of storage and had big intentions of just getting rid, I ended up putting things from one box into another to decide about later. The good thing was though that I put lots of old pictures onto scanner and then onto facebook, which broughtlots of chats, laughs and fun plans with some very old friends. Well, they arent old (we are all teenagers in our head) just longtime friends

I didnt think that I had silly spends until I did the envelope system this month and had to take more out of the treats envelope than I would have anticipated. Great eye opener.

So what take another £30 for two weeks ?

Am v excited re interview, really want this. I feel excited for you. If you put in your head that you really want it. I am sure that you will get it. Positive Thoughts bring positive actions. My friend always plays Simply the Best by Tina Turner on her CD when getting ready for interviews, she plays it in the car on the way to the interview and she always gets every job. I, on the other hand prefer Favourite Shirt by Haircut 100 :rotfl::rotfl: Not sure how that helps but it certainly calms the nerves as it is my favourite singalong song
