its very elitists and discriminatory to discriminate against families with children....
if folks want pets.. then ask for 2 months rent as a deposit - happy families make happy tenants make happy long term tenancies... = good income and no voids....0 -

You better have it in a protected scheme or it is as good as stealing.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

FGS what's up with you lot tonight:eek: I said I didn't want SMOKERS that's all! If people prefer tenants without pets that's up to them. It's their property and they can choose who they want to live in it. Some people feel animals make a mess, others consider the neighbours and if it's a quiet neighbourhood they wouldn't want, say a person with a dog barking all the time.
Why is it elitist and discriminatory to say your property is not suitable for children? It might be very old with twisting stairs, it might have no garden, it might have a pond or a well, it might just be too small.0 -
I think the problem is that as renters we get sick and tired of being told what we can or can't do. Some of us can't afford to buy a house because we don't want to get ourselves into ridiculous levels of debt and then end up expecting the taxpayer to bail us out. We can't afford to buy because for the last 10 years much of the country has watched millions of different property shows encouraging them to invest in property. Therefore half the country thinks they can be a BTL landlord, but doesn't want the responsibility of running a business, they just want a tenant to pay their mortgage for them, but heaven forbid they should dare to think of YOUR property as a HOME.
I have rented and owned, and I really am disgusted at the lack of laws to protect a tenant.
Maybe landlords had better start putting No Alcohol in case the tenants get drunk and make a mark on the wall, or No more than 2 guests at any one time and then only for an hour max, because if the house gets too crowded something may get spilt on the carpet.
If you like the house that much that you want to impose all these rules on people that are paying your mortgage then why aren't you living there yourself?
This is nothing personal mind - just a general rantDon't Panic - and carry a towel

as well as being a LL of 11 years, i am also a tenant and my own LL fails to recognise that i am her customer and thinks she can dictate how i do my garden... it really bugs me...0

Many years ago I was also a tenant. I paid the rent on the dot, I kept the house in vgc and I looked after the garden - all of which were conditions of our tenancy. When we left, the house was cleaned from top to bottom by us and the landlord wrote us a lovely reference and sent us a Thank You card.0

Rant away in general then if it makes you feel better - but he's not paying our mortgage because there isn't a mortgage on it.
Our only rule was No Smoking.
He seemed totally honest and was running on about how he would keep the garden lovely, how he would be cleaning the windows etc etc. None of which we even suggested he might do.
He said he had no appliances whatsoever so we replaced the ageing built in oven with a brand new one. We also put in a new fridge/freezer, washing machine and microwave because we figured if he was as reliable as he made himself out to be, he would stay and he kept saying he wanted it long term.
We also put in brand new blinds throughout and the decor was fresh and the whole place was sparkling clean.
Since the day he moved in I have left him to himself and said to contact us if there are any problems. I don't know what more you think a good LL could have done.0 -
The only time I haven't had a full deposit returned was the first house I rented when I left home - that was a house share with a friend, and the letting aqent took money off for damage to my friends bedroom.
I have respect for the houses I live in, I just wish the landlords/ letting agents would respect me and treat me as an adult and an equal to someone who has bought a house. I am not a second class citizen even though that is how I am made to feel as a renterDon't Panic - and carry a towel

Stop being so obsessive and selfish !!!!!!. You're getting good rent on a mortgage free property. Let the tenant lead his/her life. How would you like it if I came to your home and made demands on what you can and cannot do? Do you see yourself as somehow superior to your tenant?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
