Uncle taken money........

The money has to be somewhere. It is very hard to make £80K + disappear.
Unless he has bought a house the money has to be somewhere.
Even if he took it in small amounts of say 2-3K at a time. The DWP will need to know about the money. So if you know the money went missing say from Jan 09. Then your uncle will have to let them know. We are not talking about a few hundred pounds this is tens of thousands and would need to be declared.
The DWP will be able to look in to his bank accounts. Was the money taken in cash or cheques or internet transfers? There are trails for all of above. If it was cash how was the cash got out? etc etc.
Depends on what can be proven will depend on what happens.

Amazingly little in cash actually. Mostly William Hill (he CLEARLY has some gambling issues) various airlines, jewellers.
Significantly, none as far as I am aware, to his bank account. or any other bank account. All on purchases and gambling. Odd withdrawals, but I believe the bulk is on-line transactions.0 -

Trying to impress the new wife?
How does she fancy answering questions about receipt of stolen goods, because if they were bought with money from GF account, they belong to him.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

If they are on-line transactions then your uncle stole your fathers login details.
Does you father even have a computer and internet access in his house?
This is going to be one big thing that will stick out like a sore thumb.
Some of it has to be stashed somewhere. As that is one hell of a shopping spree.
And from what it has been spent on it is going to be very obvious not your father spending the money.
I really don't know if anything can be done. But you did need to do something. Can the bank not report it to the police with out your fathers permission.
One other question is your uncle aware that the family all know?
All the best and do keep us informed of what happens.

Well I know he spent about £5K on the engagement ring........directly from GD a/c!
It also paid for their honeymoon and a number of subsequent holidays-at least one withdrawal was from a German cash point-when uncle and wifey were in Germany.......GD has not travelled in years.........0 -

Does your Grand father even have a current passport?
Also does the your uncles wife not think about where all the money comes from to buy these items if he is on benefits.

I believe they are, as it is looking like about 5 separate accounts that have been emptied, not just current account

Look, he probably has on-line accounts set up all over the place funded by this card.
Have the bank cancelled the card and preferably closed the accounts? If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
You may find it useful to talk to Action on Elder Abuse (freephone helpline) http://www.elderabuse.org.uk/AEA%20Services/Helpline.htm
They are very experienced in cases of financial abuse and offer solid info on what steps could be taken, dependent on circumstances......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
