  • Just sent platinum to goldrefiners.co.uk, I was offered less than one third of its value, rejected the offer, and am still waiting for the platinum back despite it being over the five days stated in which i would receive it.
Getting a bit concerned I've thrown away £600,dont use goldrefiners, any idea of my next step?
  • Thanks for the brilliant guide to selling second hand gold. I had no idea my old broken chains, rings and earrings would be worth anything at all. In fact I'd guessed at maybe £30 and would have been embarrassed to take them to a jewellers for valuation. Out of interest I weighed the sorry little handful on my kitchen scales and it came to 34gm. Imagine my surprise to find this was worth over £400!! Thanks to reading this guide, we've got some money put away for Christmas now. The service from Hatton Garden Metals was fantastic and highly recommended!
  • I sent some broken 9ct chains, broken charm bracelet and ear rings off to Scrap Gold UK in Birmingham last month and I received a cheque after a couple of days for £137 ,I got £13.40 a gram (September) so I then sent some silver bangles and earrings and got another £36,I was well pleased as they were just sitting in a drawer doing nothing:)
  • I have a 1oz bar of 24ct gold that id like to sell, but most of the information out there is about old jewelry. Does anyone have any advice on the best place to sell my gold? I don't mind selling via a postal gold sites, like Hatton Garden metals (although posting it makes me a little anxious) or maybe going to London's gold district, although I have very little experience with 'haggling'!' Also has anyone used RoyalGoldBuyers website? If so any feedback?
  • Would recommend that people ALWAYS shop around. Pawn shops offered the worst price when I looked into it, less than half the amount that I finally got.

How come you own a chunk of gold.
How much tax did you have to pay to buy it?
It is probably the dead hand of taxation that is responsible for Hatton Garden metals only advertising for Sovereigns. (£1 coins:rotfl:)

Check the threads on here that ague that there is a thriving market in untaxed(able) Gold - but by definition not very well regulated.

  • I just got a quote from a high street jewelers for 14.7g of 9ct gold at £135. Hatton Garden metals gave me £183.46, it cost me £5 to send it special delivery and the money was sent the next day (the day they recieved). No fuss at all. :j
  • I sent my gold to 'Gold Refiners'. I had previously had it valued at an independent jewellers and they said they would give me £58 for it. When the Gold Refiners offer came back at £40.97 I was shocked and immediately phoned them and asked them to send it back to me as I'd previously had a better offer. They said to leave it with them and they'd get back to me which they did, now offering me £62 for it! It was probably worth more but I was happy with £62 as I decided it was probably the best offer I was going to get from any one of those kind of companies. It just goes to show it's always worth rejecting the first offer and seeing what they come up with second time around! :xmassmile
  • Hey,
Does anybody knows this company gerrardsonline.co.uk and your opinion for this company?
    Thank you
  • Hi..have just sorted out my odds & ends of gold and with the aid of a magnifying glass have identified the hallmarks etc...however I have a chain which I believe may have come from Malta but has no hallmark. Does anyone know what the likely charges are for a jeweller to appraise the chain for me? Thanks!
