What about all these false prices knocking around at the moment. They show on google adwords and they show on websites.
In the trade we know they are false. They lure the Public in and bamboozle them
Some offer more thanm the fix? How do they make a profit? especially in a falling market?

Am I the only one to notice them??
Does everyone know how to spot them?

Trading Standards should be educated to spot this roguish practise immediately.

    Hello
I have a 9ctgold st christopher pendent and chain and a gents 9ct gold and hametite ring to sell, they are nice items and I thought too nice to scrap, so I have put them on ebay.
Unfortunately I am getting lots of questions asking how much they weigh, I only have scales that weigh flour so not much use for this job.
Anyway what I am saying is that would it be cheeky to go to a local cash for gold type place and ask them to weigh the items, its just that the ring is not all gold as it has the hametite stone. Do they generally tell you the weight or just offer you a price?
    Thank you

Just send them to Hatton Garden Metals and be done with it. Gold is gold - there is no point in poking around trying to get a few quid extra, that is why you are getting all the people asking about the weight.

A lot of people have electronic scales that weigh to a fraction of a gramme, just for weighing postal items.

Top of a list of pages came this from Google.

Things have changed a bit since the mid 1800s when queen Victoria used to churn out about 8 million sovereigns a year.
  • Just wanted to share that I sold gold yesterday in Hatton Garden. I took a stroll down the street and had three different jewellers give me quotes. Then I went into Landale Precious Metals. They were the only ones who offered to test the items using a gun & who weighed the items where I could see the scales (and the numbers!). They then wrote out an itemised quote by carat (I had 18, 21 & 22 carat) based on the daily fixed rate. They offered more than £80 more than the best of the jewellers. I highly recommend using them. I felt I was being played for a fool by the other guys & if I find anything else I want to sell, I'll go back to Landale.

Obviously, this is only useful to people in London or willing to travel - but I thought it worth posting my personal experience.

Thanks for posting - £80 more on what sort of quantity or total? Difficult to see from your post if it would affect my own transactions as it could be that you sold a truly massive quantity
You never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow

Used Hatton Garden Metals because Martin recommended them. They are wonderful. Sent them my old jewellery yesterday, they emailed me this morning and an hour later the money was in my account
