Hi everyone. I am working as a researcher for a consumer affairs pilot for Channel 4 and would love to hear your success stories / horror stories involving cash for gold companies.

Have you been a victim of a cash for gold scam? Any top tips you can offer others? I'd love to hear your views and experiences.
Please reply of private message me.

    Thanks everyone,

    Sam x

  • I have sold my gold to a company called Monsterpriceforgold.com. They were really good as they called me with an offer and after watching The One Show I was worried I would just get sent a cheque.

After doing my research I realised that the companies with Gold Calculators quoting the ridiculous high prices for gold were a con. They were quoting the Gold Bullion value instead of what they would pay. So once you ahd sent your gold they would take admin etc costs off this price and damage the jewellery. Everyone please read all Postal Gold companies T&Cs before sending them off. I read the T&Cs at monsterpriceforgold.com and was happy with the offer an service.
  • BRITISH GOLD REFINERY WARNING do not use this company i sent them a curb bracelet and was quit happy for them to value it per there website they say they pay on the carat value and weigh it on there trading standard calibrated scales it is hallmarked so what could go wrong well they have paid me just £40 not a fraction of the true value when i phoned they said only the clasp was in fact gold and tests on the bracelet had come back inconclusive but they would retest it and phone me back guess what they didn't but i have phoned them again the girl was very polite and said the results had not come back but would find out why not and phone me back i know obtaining good, cash or services by deception is a criminal offence so this is the path i may have to go down thankfully i have had it valued before so i have a good idea of its worth i now know why this company pay free post on your items or free courier pick up, with the low price they pay you they could afford to get it picked up by taxi if they want to rip me off so be it but if i have to request 100 postal packs and send them a worthless can ring pull every time so they pay the postal cost i will don't get mad, get even i will update when they phone me back lol
  • Had someone come to my door today buying gold. As it happens, I had some, and he offered 10 pounds per gram for 9ct gold, cash. That's a fair price for cash in hand at the door, no postage etc. (better than Tesco for example).

The catch was that his scales said I had 33 grams, but after he left empty handed I weighed them myself and my scales said I have 55 grams (which I "calibrated" against some known weights).

He showed me the gold he claimed to have already bought today. Those dodgy scales probably made him about 5000 pounds profit today, even if he just sent the stuff to Tesco himself!
  • Can anyone tell me of their experience with mycashgoldmine.co.uk?
  • Sorry, would have put a link in.
  • For Information

Saw the post re British Gold Refinery too late, I sent 9g of 9 carat gold, the website calculator said around £130, after chasing for a response they paid £60 into my bank account, not a good deal compared with other postings on this site.

  • I telephoned British Gold Refinery on 8 August and was offered 72.2p per gram for over 2 kilos of hallmarked sterling silver. They received it on 11 August and after several reminders offered me 30p per gram instead. Then demanded a return fee of £125 and upped that to £150 when I called in Trading Standards. It took me five weeks, including a written final notice of intended legal proceedings, before they eventually settled at £1852 and returned some other items which they had grossly undervalued - including 90 grams of 50% silver as worthless. Not once in those five weeks did they ever honour any one of their promises or undertakings.

  • Just wanted to post that I had some gold to sell, bits and pieces- some of which were broken. I was unsure who to use so I checked out this site and discovered that Hatton Garden Metals were recommended by quite a number of people. I looked at their site online, queried what could/should be sent and got a quick email back from them. I then packaged up the items and posted them Special Delivery yesterday and today (before lunchtime) the money was in my bank. They kept me informed throughout the process and I am very happy with the price paid (I had expected around the amount given having used their quick calculation online) and the quick and efficient service. I would definitely recommend them- and will be recommending them to any of my friends.
