Not may people seem to have any thoughts on selling bullion grade gold, I really want to get rid of my 50g now but I am worried about sending it through the post. Online searchs dont really work as i get thousands of hits about selling junk goild but I cant find anything about bullion.

Any one recommend a company I can sell it to in the South East or East of England?

Some one on here managed to visit Hatton Garden Metals in person; they seem to be a fair low cost dealer in scrap gold and sovereigns.

Why not send them an email or a phone call and ask their advice, perhaps referring to your posts on here to demonstrate that you are genuine.

    Beware http://www.compareandrecycle.co.uk and http://www.postgoldforcash.com

The first claims that Post Gold for Cash pays out the best prices and proof can be seen in a comparison carried out by "The One Show" on BBC1. The second, endorsed by TV celeb Anne Diamond, claims to be the best - far from it.

Encouraged by the One Show report I sent 2.2g of 14ct gold to Post Gold for Cash. I had checked the gold value and the amount came to £39.40 on the day. I felt that an offer about £32 would be fair.

I got a call 2 days later and the offer was... £7.00 !!!!!!! Naturally, I immediately refused and asked for my gold to be returned. Without hesitation, the lacky then said that she could, under the circumstances, offer me £15.00 - an increase of over 100% in less than a minute. I told PGFC where they could stick their offer and demanded my gold back - "5-7 days" I was told. Three days later, I was called again... Our valuers have advised us that we can offer you £35. An incredible 500% increase from their first offer. I refused again saying I wanted my gold back. I was asked why, so replied that although they had finally made a good offer, they had tried to screw me over on first contact - not what a truly honest and reliable dealer would do.

My gold was returned by Special Delivery at PGFC's expense the next day.

On further Google searching I came across http://www.gold-traders.co.uk

They have an online gold value calculator that will give you an immediate quote (the amount they are willing to pay, which is slightly less than the market value of course) BEFORE you send off your gold. You have to allow for a small change between the day you do the valuation and the value on the day they get it but it amounts to pennies.

My 2.2g of 14ct gold was valued at £38.22 on the day I checked, and I accepted £38.45 - the value had gone up! :j

So for up front valuation, honesty and straightforward dealing I recommend http://www.gold-traders.co.uk/

Any bullion coins will do. Krugerrands are fine. Canadian Maple Leaf coins are my favourite. They are very pure. The Maples also come in silver, platinum, and a host of other metals.

After reading the advice from MSE about selling gold, I sent off my old jewellery to Hatton Garden Metals (around 34g 9ct gold, 71g silver and small amounts of 8ct and 18ct gold). This was all old, broken jewellery that I never wore. I posted it special delivery yesterday and today my bank has been credited with almost £500!! Wow! Thank you MSE for your fantastic advice, as always!! :j

All, I have around 160g of 9ct gold and I was wondering what the best company would be to send off to?

Has anoyne had any dealings with scrapgolduk? I'm in glasgow and would travel to birmingham if needed to as it's only a 10 hour round trip!! well, depending how quick i drive ;p

If anyone knows of anywhere in Scotland that is quite good prices could they post please?

    Thanks
  • Hi, I am new to this forum but was so angry I needed to let off some steam! I was looking to sell some gold, diamond and silver items so I searched the web for the best price - British Gold Refinery seemed to fit the bill. I emailed them and asked if they were interested in diamonds or just gold. They said they accepted all precious metal items. I applied for a pack which promptly arrive the next day with a prepaid Special Delivery envelope - I was impressed. I filled in the form on the front and sent it back. I got an acknowledement email a couple of days later saying my items were being evaluated. I heard nothing more so emailed again a few days later for an update. They emailed and said a payment had been made into my bank account, it didn't even say how much for! I emailed back and said how can a payment be made when noone has even contacted me to discuss an offer? They said as I had not ticked the Quote Only box I had accepted their offer and it was paid into my bank account and that it was in their Terms and Conditions. The leaflet they sent says "after receiving your gold we will contact you with an offer". I asked how much the payment was and they said £141! There was no way I accepted my items were worth that and I wanted them returned and the transfer reversed. They then upped their offer to £151.99, again I refused. They said to get my items back I had to repay the £141 (fair enough) plus £50 costs. Their leaflet also says "choose to cancel within 10 days and we'll post your gold back - no questions asked!" I am then told if I had ticked the Quote Only box they would be returned for free. So they are holding my items for ransom until I pay them this money within 10 days. She said they pay spot prices for gold and are not a jewellers, yet their website says they buy gemstones and I specifically enquired about this gold and diamond ring. I asked her what they would do with the diamonds in my ring and she said it "wasn't her department".
Their T&C's aren't even on the leaflet just written in microprint that you should visit their website. Who would knowingly send their items and be paid an amount THEY say they are worth without discussing it first? I feel like I have been robbed either way - either of my items or of £50 to get my items back. They haven't even given me a weight for them and I don't have any proof they have even tested them. I am stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Their literature and website are deliberately misleading, I feel they are intentionally being deceitful. They could make £50 out of every mug like me! I am absolutely livid and will pursue this further.

Any idea of the caret (% pure gold) & weight of the ring, including the diamonds?
