Tesco Gold Exchange are advertising £10 per gm on their website valid until 31 Janaury. However, when you click through to check how much you wil get there is a disclaimer saying it will vary depending on market rates. Their partner, Ramsdens, is only offering £8 per gm on their site at the moment.

Anyone recently sold through the Tesco scheme and did they actually get £10 per gm?

Yes, I recently sold some gold to them and got £10 per gm. The whole thing was surprisingly painless and the money was in my account on the same day as I accepted their offer.

They seemed to be really professional, the gold pack was sent out straight away (but of course, they want your gold), and I received it the next day.

I sent it back and also received a phone call asking what I had sent. I had put in some broken chains, several pairs of earrings and a couple of bracelets. All 9ct gold and weighing 20gms in total.

I received a phone call from them the next day asking if I had sent it back. They had already received it according to the tracking. I was told someone would call me back with a price.

Five days later I had heard nothing. Strange how the calls stop once they have your gold. So I rang them and was told again that someone would get back to me. I said that if it wasn't today, they should send it back. I was then called with a price - £85. I said that was way below what it was worth and to send it back. They called back again and said they would give me £100, and did I realise that they would charge £36 to send it back!

I pointed out that it said on their website that it would be returned free of charge, no questions asked. I argued for a while and then was called back by a manager who said that in the terms and conditions it stated that they could charge for returns. It actually says that their current policy is to provide cancellation service free of charge, but under certain circumstances may make a charge. I asked what the certain circumstances were, and was told that they don't have to disclose that!

We argued back and forth until she said, you have two options, you sell to us at the price offered or you pay £36. That's the final word on it.

I paid the money, got the gold back and took it to another jewellers (I don't want to mention them in this post in case someone thinks I work for them) It was tested, weighed and I received £190 within minutes.

I rarely get angry enough to make posts, but this is blatant misleading advertising, and I want to save anyone else from the hassle and expense I've had.
  • I found that this firm were fast friendly and most important they paid better than what was advertised on the website.i was most please with the speed the money got to my account.paul who i dealt with was very professional and like others that i have tried did not try to conn me into a lower amount of money.i will be using them again real soon so i will update this friend if it was just a one off.:t

All the posts seem to be about selling cast offs. Does anyone know the best way to sell good quality jewellery, Rolex watch for example?

Can anyone recommend the best way to sell gold bullion? I have 50 gramms of pure gold and I think it probably time to sell it. I bought it from ebay a few years ago.

I would prefer to take it somewhere rather that post but if I have to post how should I send it?
  • Worth pointing out that Hatton Garden metals will only pay full price on hallmarked gold. Just something to be aware of when sending them gold. They will treat 22 carat gold as 20carat. Depending on the quantity, this can be quite material.
