not sure about the OPs, I know the inlaws paid thier mortgage off early by paying lump sums, then reducing monthly payment therefore saving more/quicker for the next lump sum- no idea what is most cost efficient tho - probably depends on how interest is calcluated (bet there is someone on here with a spreadsheet that could figure it out?!)
enjoy your days off
Ta TYO
Not sure what we will do, am not gonna start stressing about £2.40 a month!! Will continue OPing the left over balance in the joint account anyway, so that reduction will automatically get swallowed up in the monthly OP :T
Can't wait for the days off! Work has been Hell lately..Just about everybody is doing my head in, my staff, my boss, my clients, my colleagues... Just don't fancy going back there tomorrow.. Thank God, its only a short day (finish at 2pm).. Mobile will be switched off till Wednesday, any problems they can sort it out themselves
Could do with a different job, but the job market is not great, and I should consider myself lucky to have a job at the moment... There has been announcements today at OH work about a new bunch of redundancies (she is not involved, pfew!!), and I would not be surprised if our bosses from the US make an appearance over here before the end of the year to get rid off a few people...
OH is back home now, however she is locked in the study on the phone to her boss..when she is actually on HOLIDAYS!!!
I think a few drinks this weekend will do me a world of good, I need some fresh air...
Sorry this post sounds so negative, it will pass with time...:o

Morning all! :j
Am finally back, after a few days away to recharge my batteries…
The wedding last Saturday was fantastic! What a great day, the weather held down and we avoided the rain all day… The bride looked radiant & the groom scrubbed up pretty good too.. We saw a lot of our friends that we have not seen for a while, and we spent most of the day catching up with all of them.. I even managed a little boogie on the dance floor late into the night… Then on Sunday morning, mad rush up the M6 to meet my mum & her boyfriend who had made their way up from Plymouth & arrived at ours on the Saturday afternoon..
We got truly spoilt..The wine delivery was gigantic: 72 bottles of wine in total (“Hic”, me think xmas will be fun this year!).. Some cheese, nice biscuits, sweets & cakes.. & books, presents.etc… Its so great when they come over, we really do feel like royalty…
My mum’s boyfriend being very good at DIY, I spent Monday & Tuesday with him working on the house.. I think we managed to do about 2 years worth of my DIY in about 2 days, it feels great! He has been working on the house on his own yesterday & today, so surprises keep coming up… he has been touching up the paint work in the kitchen & hallway yesterday, re-grouting tiles in the bathroom… and he found a leak behind the toilets !!! Each time we flush, there is a cup full of water leaking onto the floorboards … After talking to the neighbour last night, it appears the same problem happened to her last year, and she got it fixed going through the house insurance… So will be phoning the insurance people tonight when we get home…
We spent most of Monday DIY-ing but also shopping… The trips to IKEA & B&Q were VERY expensive but needed to be done, so that’s now out of the way… Not MSE at all, but necessary…
Good news, is that yesterday OH finally got written confirmation of her promotion & pay rise.. This is at the lower end of her expectations, but salary is good, car allowance is higher, and she gets 2 more days holidays a year, and her bonus share is 10% higher as well…
The OP’s on the mortgage have been on hold for about a month, waiting for these news, so we should be able to restart our journey in the next couple of weeks….
Back at work since yesterday, and completely swamped with emails, meetings, and weird requests.. So glad to be back at work, not.. had a call from a recruitment agency on Tuesday, and have put myself back in their books as actively looking for a new position… I need a change of atmosphere, and I need to see if I can get a job nearer to home, with less responsibilities & stress…
Oh well, at least we should get a quiet weekend.. Think we are meeting dome friends from Preston for Sunday lunch…:T

Bl**dy heating packed up once again ! I have hot water but no heating in the radiators... Why can't things be easy!! I am only after a simple life where things work out the way they are supposed to... That and the leak in the bathroom!! Whats next? The roof collapsing??
I wonder if I am cursed sometimes??
The credit card is already maxed this month...
Any nice (and cheap) plumber near Manchester fancy making a good deed??

Poor Froggy!
I know how you feel though - it never rains but it pours! You seem to have a very similar life to me ATM - my boiler broke too, but it was the hot water we lost not heating and also have a leak behind the toilet everytime we flush! My insurance will cover it, but they will only pay for patch repair so that if the workmen break a tile and it needs replacing they will only replace that one with the closest match they can find (some policies apparently will re-tile your bathroom to ensure it all matches if they can't get hold of an original tile).
I am off to Lowry Outlet Mall this afternoon to do a bit of retail therapy and forget about my tumble-down flat! You could always try the Trafford Centre to cheer you up - i know how much you love it!:rotfl:Mort at highest - June 2008 - £171,000 - Daily Int 5.9% = £27.64:eek:Offset Mort - Nov 2010 £150,299- Daily Int 3.75% = Nov £15.44Mortgage Jan 2012 - £136,000 - Daily Int 3.75% - £3.100
