    Hi Froggy,

I completely agree. We were offered anything up to £150,000 on a combined annual salary of £42,500 but with absolutely no money spare after my having to hurriedly buy a car which wiped out our £4,500 savings to that point. Northern Rock were going to give us the extra £50k to help us get properly settled in and I'm glad we only took the extra 5%. Without them, and our eventually less than trustworthy IFA, I've no idea where we would have ended up at the start - probably a pokey wee flat overrun with overly nasal jakies (i.e. - further west than we are!!)

by the way, 1.6 million seconds and counting down....

    Cheers,

    Billy

    Morning all!

Hope you all had a good weekend?

OH & I had a good weekend... We ended spending 5 hours in the local shopping centre , not my cup of tea at all, I'd rather watch grass grow.. But hey ho, needs must, I needed a new suit for the wedding we are off to next week, and new suit was found within 20 minutes of arriving at the shopping centre, so me thought, woohoo! we are now off home... No such luck, so off I went looking at more interesting stuff in other shops, while OH tried to find a new outfit...5 hours later, still nothing, so it will have to be a DIY outfit with what she currently has, and will accesorize accordingly...

She then decided that instead she would spend the rest of the weekend ordering xmas presents through the web! However, my gorgeous has taken a shine to Quidco and has found a fair few bargains, and some very personal presents, which am sure will be greatly appreciated...That should help combat the last minute crazy spending we have seen in the last few years... Am wondering if it is too early to start writing xmas cards?? What do you think?

Good weather over here this weekend, so i even managed to mow the lawn!! On the 10th October!! Can you believe that??

Just saw from MSE news that banks are trying to block PPI payouts..That makes me laugh :rotfl:In that case, should the government ask for the bailout money back that tehy have given to the banks as well then??... Am so glad I fought for my PPI back and got it sorted out before they manage to block it...:D

The refund for the house insurance has already been paid back to us:T (was only due on 23rd/24th October), so we have used it against the xmas purchases that OH made this weekend, so that we avoid moving funds from the savings account...

    Thats all for the moment...

    Evening all :j

Heating packed up at home  Great, just as it started freezing outside!!
Oh well, OH will be working from home tomorrow morning, so she can be there when plumber turns up..

OH continued her xmas shopping, all of it being delivered at my work :p, and cashback on every single item purchased so far!!:D

Depending how much the plumber is tomorrow, there might not be any OP this month

  • Hey froggy
going back a few posts- I did wonder whether you had got lucky on the euromillions when I saw it had a uk winner! ;) am thinking my plan of winning the lottery might not come to fruition if I never buy a ticket.... then again.... a £1 a week could be going into the mortgage... :rotfl:

well done to OH on cashack xmas pressies- I have bought most of mine but cheaply so am hoping wont have the frantic scrabble to the shops on the 23rd december (yes really!) in the snow (the day the world ground to a halt!) like last year ..

bad news about the heating- hope it gets fixed soon and fairly inexpensively - it never rains when it pours Ive found, from a summer of having to pay to fix drains, water tank and get tiles on part of the roof sorted which were letting water thru to the cieling! and this is what we borrow ridiculous multiples of our salary for eh?:p

    Hey TYO:hello:

Don't think they ahve found who the UK winner is so far?? It might still be somebody we know!!

I am not going near the shops in December, no way, its bad enough in normal circumstances but xmas in the shops is horrendous.. We should be done by the end of the month... Then only the xmas tree to get early December...:santa2:

Heating got fixed this morning... £35 all in, so not bad at all, and I won't have to sit in my PJ's & dressing gown, under the duvet in front of the telly tonight...

Not much else to report.. Will order 3 hampers from the shop next to my work, for which I will add some more goodies so these can be taken back to France by my Mum next week...

Anybody know when the next Tesco Clubcard vouchers will be sent out?

    Hi Froggy,

Glad it wasn't as big a hit as it could have been. I find the shops at the end of the month infuriating - just prior to Christmas, I'd have to take a gun with me!

    Cheers,

    Hi TYO!

Not bad at all for the plumber callout.. We are quite lucky to know this plumber, he is reliable and very honest.. He is coming back next month to service the boiler..
I still have £20 of clubcard vouchers from last time around, and this time out should be around £40+, and hopefully we can get a few things for xmas, before Tesco reduces the vouchers value to 3 times..

    Have a great weekend!

Signature time update - see below
Have managed to get hold of somebody at N-RAM (newly named ex-Northern Rock), to get my balances... I had to call twice as the first person I spoke to was pretty useless, however the second time, the girl was very professional and courteous..
I now have details to do online transfers to the specific part of the mortgage I want to hit (aka the unsecured part of the loan), and I will still receive a letter confirming my payments about a week to 10 days later, with my new balance -RESULT!

Now off to take OH to the haidresser, while I am off food shopping at Mr T, then will pick her up later on (she still has bits & pieces to get from xmas from town)...

Table tennis last night and victory 9-1!! I won my 3 individual games & the doubles.. Felt good and played not badly at all.. Was back home by 10.30... We are playing in the first round of the cup on Monday night...

Also received renewal notice for washing machine breakdown cover, which we have cancelled (we did use the cover last year when it broke down), however prices have shot up, and annual fee would cover the price of a new machine.. so savings all around..

Hope you all have a great weekend!

I think lots of us are happy enough to have taken out mortgages we might not get right now. Ours was "only" around 3.5 times our combined income (we decided not to over-stretch ourselves) but over 30yrs. We had some consumer debt too then, so are far more comfortable now.
