It is not pleasing to find ingredients in cooked products that are not supposed to be there...
That's the issue here surely. Would I be as outraged to find a piece of vegetable (that wasn't specifically mentioned in the ingredients) in my meat pasty? No doubt the OP would argue that's not the same. But... the crux of the matter is that something has mistakenly snuck into somewhere it shouldn't have been. Not great, but just a mistake.
Vegetarians don't have a monopoly on wanting their food to be as specified. If someone tried to sneak celery into my food, I'd pass out."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
Totally agree!!
I bought some hot cross buns a couple of months ago in ASDA and "lo and behold" they contained pieces of chicken. It was clearly freshly cooked chicken (quite nice) and caused no upset. I was actually glad of the opportunity to take the buns back because they did not taste as nice as they looked. So, I reported the chicken to them and got my money back.
There is clearly an issue with ASDA if the cooked chicken is finding its way in to other cooked products; and they need to deal with it.
The o/p claims to have been mortified or traumatized by his experience. No more traumatized than I would be if I found a bone in my fish and chip supper, I can assure him.
It is not pleasing to find ingredients in cooked products that are not supposed to be there but the incident does not merit inclusion into "Foxes Book of Martyrs" as the o/p appears to believe.
how on earth would chicken appear in hot cross buns ? , its not as tho asda bake any of its products on site?Vuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -

I don't want to duck the issue, but sometimes I think that supermarkets can have trouble keeping abreast of these sort of issues. It can involve a lot of leg work, and it can be tempting for them to just wing it, with the result that they end up feathering their own nest, so to speak.
Further, putting greater controls in place can lead to a large bill, and folk flying off in all sorts of directions, which can be a fairly heavy yolk for many businesses. For these reasons, I don't think it is wise to egg on the OP, not that I am saying he/she should lay down and take it, but I can't see some huge anti-supermarket plan hatching out of this. I'd be very surprised if the OP managed to get anything other than a refund, and perhaps a poultry amount by way of a good will gesture. this would seem fair. I don't think that it would be possible to pluck a random figure out the ether, and if we were to try the supermarket, could, reasonably so, cry foul.
