I'm on that at night, if you read the leaflet don't be alarmed by what it is 'usually' used for, it is traditionally used as a treatment for depression but in low doses can be very affective as pain relief. They don't seem to rewrite the leaflets in line with treatment options.
Do you take 1 or 2? The doctor just said "take or 2 at night", and then the pharmacist repeated that. I have 56 which would be enough for a month at 2, but I don't know how I'm supposed to decide. I think I'll start with 1.

  • I would start out with one and take it a few hours before you expect to go to bed to see how quickly it kicks in.

    I also have amitriptylene, 1 a night (10 mg).

It does help a little but even though the doctor offered to up the strength of it, I was a little reticent about doing so as it does have a sedative effect on me during the night. My fear with an increased dose or strength is that the sedative effect would carry over after I have woken up in the morning and make driving dangerous or difficult (I have no option but to drive first thing as I have the school run to do).

So the dosage has stayed the same...think I drive my doctor barmy as I am so awkward about what I will take because of the impact on my ability to drive, I would rather be in pain than not be able to fulfil my duty as mother and carer to my boys.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

That's true enough - hydroxychloroquine (aka Plaquenil) which I take to try to keep lupus under control was originally developed as an anti-malarial!

Good luck with the Ami; I hope it improves things for you.:o

I'm back on amitriptyline, too. It normally makes me a complete zombie at 10mg, so they've put me on 5mg instead, which seems to be having an okay effect on my sleep so far, but it's only been a couple of days, so I'm still wary. Apparently I'm also anaemic as well as short on vitamin D, so I have more supplements to take on top of all that.

    Ah well!

If I can get out of the house tonight, I'm going to see Dar Williams in concert. I really hope I can get there, as I've not seen her live before, and I would love to. The snow's pretty heavy, so it means a taxi, most like... But I'm not coughing up as much as I was.

Had a real struggle getting around the supermarket this morning, everything hurt, creaked and was stiff, had only popped in for a few bits and bobs so it wasn't as if I was lugging a huge trolley around or on my feet for an excessive amount of time....I was about as fast as a snail which completely peed off the ones walking behind me in the newly very much narrowed Morrisons passages.

So, it is a slow move around day but a still need to get housework done day as the ex mother in law is round tonight and she can be hyper critical about my mothering skills.

Now, do I dare take one of my tablets in the middle of the day? Or do I grin and bear it until the ex mother in law from hell has gone tonight so I can safely zombie out if I need to?

I take 1 25mg an hour or so before bed, but you should start out with one and see how it affects you for a few days, if you feel ok with it then take 2 for the next few days, if 2 takes you over the edge and causes bad symptoms then go back to just one but dont stop altogether as that can bring on bad symptoms as well.

Is there a polite way to tell her to mind her own business? It's not as if (generally) people with children have houses that are clean anyway. I do remember once getting an apology from a friend about the mess on the floor - he'd tried getting his son to feed himself. In doing so, he dropped a load of toast on the floor.

Unfortunately not SH...anything I say to excuse something, she says is me being lazy. She doesn't believe you can have joint problems under the age of 70, if you say you do, you are making it up to excuse not doing something.

I have done the front room and hallway and will just close the door to the kitchen (good idea anyway as it is like a freezing hurricane blowing through with that door open!) and that will have to do.

Just about finished myself off doing it though so goodness knows how I am going to cope with doing the school run, getting to the doctors or cooking dinner tonight, let alone anything else the boys might need doing!

Think eldest is going to have to cancel going to his friends house so he can help home here with the boys.

I wish I could magic myself there to help you out; when teleports are invented you can count on me to zap in to your house like a fairy god mother :j
