  • Oh, well done Sue! If you have any more exams in the future, have you enquired about getting extra time, so that you can have breaks to move around? My exam this time last year for the OU was in a hall so cold, I could barely move at the end of the 3 hours - but I was lucky, because I had worn a hat and fingerless gloves, etc, so I was well prepared, unlike most of the candidates, who were also almost falling out of their chairs at the end.

Big news, people (oh and sorry I didn't get to read your reply, Tobruk)

    I'm in MY NEW HOUSE!!!!!!!

OK, I'm surrounded by boxes of crpa, only have flooring in half the house and am having a nightmare with them screwing up IS, HB and CT.

But I can shuffle into my wetroom for a lovely long power shower each morning, and it's warm, draughtfree and mouldfree. I have a socket by my bed to plug in my CPAP machine and today I have pottered around doing various loads of washing and drying them outside - for free - instead of having to reply on a tumble drier.

I fell asleep in the sunshine after a cup of tea and a flick through a gardening mag (I have a garden!) and considered what colour to get the potting shed painted (I have a shed!) and where to have the pond (I have space for a pond!).

One of my cats has also decided that it was worth the risk of coming downstairs to find me and is currently snoring on the hall mirror (which is laid on top of a recycling bin with a fleece chucked on top like a furry table) in the afternoon sun streaming through the south facing bay. The other two are still under my bed. They haven't eaten for 24 hours, so I'm sure they'll be out soon enough.

One short phrase pretty much covers it, I think.

    At last.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

wow that's brilliant news. Sounds like a wonderful 'normal persons' day.

now you have a garden, if you use tesco for shopping there is a subscription for a gardening magazine using the points system which is something rediculous like £8 of vouchers for a year.

Also, you should (get someone to) put up a bird table, it gives me great pleasure to see all the wildlife coming in and out of the garden on the days I can't get up and about and I'm sure it would bring a smile to your face too.

Well done for persisting for that long to get what you need, I'm sure you see now that it was all worth it :T

If Sue was to do this, she may also get put into a different room - maybe with some other people in her situation re: extra time and needing to move around. I had similar issues in college (I actually fell asleep in an exam!:o) and was told I could go down into the library and do the exam there.

    Jojo - that sounds brilliant!:)

Thanks Jojo, I'm an awkward one really as I am not quite up to facing the fact that things are not as healthy as they used to be so don't tend to think of myself as disabled...well until it hits me in the face like it did today during the exam! :rotfl:

The OU advisor did advise when I signed up for my next next course (not the next one I am doing but the one after that!), to fill in the meeting my needs form even though there is no diagnosis just random bits and bobs of my body falling to pieces...haven't quite got my head in the right place to do that as yet either. But I really should do, even if it is to avoid what happened this morning in the exam.

I know my physio was concerned with the amount of walking and the possible seating/writing (no idea why the writing unless she has forgotten I am left handed and it is my right hand which is beggered) in the exam and she told me not to overdo things and to shout if things got too much but I am a proud person and there is just no way I could have put my hand up and said I was in too much discomfort and could I just stand up and sit down again a few times, those seats were just awful and had absolutely no support for my lumbar region, an absolute must to keep me comfortable.

I am really feeling it tonight, I am currently trying to build myself up to getting upstairs for a bath (I find a bath helps me) but every movement is just so painful just getting out of my seat is an escapade let alone getting up the stairs too or actually getting in and out of the bath!

Jojo - excellent news on the house and so pleased to hear you are getting settled.

Edit - Just spoke to my eldest son and he was amazed I got on a bus...he thought I was being very brave (now who feels like a 3 year old who has just been praised by a parent :rotfl:). Note to self, get on more buses.....
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I have an exam with the OU next week and have now decided to take a cushion. Thanks!

But do speak to the disability team as they are so helpful. If it's just something as simple as taking a cushion you probably won't need permission. But they can do other things - I have extra resting time, which means I only get the standard 3 hours to write but I can stand up and move around without it counting in that 3 hours. They also may be able to change your exam venue, as in some towns they have several, and it might be a bit further away but with parking.

    help needed about healthy suppers
my husband is 26stone diabetic heart problems and depression.
he enjoys food and definetely uses it as a comfort
he is 63 and was brought up with 8am 12pm4pm and 8pm mealtimes.
    our days revolve around food
we fall out every night about the supper as diabetic specialist once told him he shouldn`t go to bed without having a snack as he could hypo, which has happened(sometimes he says he`s not hungry but must MUST eat something.)
he has told doctors that he would rather die happy enjoying life than a strict regime of weight loss(he has really tried hard to lose weight in the past but to not much success not very mobile, fell over twice recently so has lost confidence going out

please can someone advise me what i should do
what i can tempt him with at 8-9pm ie cereal
it seems he always the same things and this happensEVERY night
tonight he has just gone to bed without anything saying he`ll take a chance (made to make me feel guilty as i couldnt suggest anything)
i try not to buy anything unhealthy.sorry for my ramblings:(

Thanks needing help.....not so sure I have done well in the exam but never mind, there is always a resit.

It took me most of the week to physically get over it, felt good over the weekend and then fell down the blasted stairs last night!

Go to the GP and insist on a referral to a dietician, you may have to be persistent. As your oH is obviously dangerously overweight all the government targets and what not should work in your favour and you, if anyone, should be able to be referred on.

That way you can work through a proper daily routine and both of you can be reassured that the food is the right sort and that you are not providing too little or too much of any sort.

Diebetes is not something you should be gambling with and you both need professional advice on this one. Be persistent, explain your fears to the GP and insist you need help with this.
