Just thought I'd pop in and say hi. Have had a week trying to get myself back to some degree of normaility after 12 days hospital and a few weeks of being unwell prior to that. Been trying to potter around and actually do things. Stamina is rubbish as is my general level of patience with myself at my lack of ability and silly irriatations of life. However I've been pushing myself as far as I can as doing things is the only way stamina is going to increase. Was in for drug treatment on dodgy lungs. Had a call from GP surgery this morning trying to sort out difficulties the hospital informed them of. Basically messages wasnt passed through to doctors and phone put down on me. Hopefully thats sorted out as extra stress wasnt helped me to keep all appointments.
Anyone any advice in getting settled back to normal state etc after hospital stay. It all feels a bit unmanageable at present but am sure it will get easier.

So I was supposed to have a care assessment today. Nope. Postponed for another 2 weeks - but when the lady who rang me to tell me heard I'm having to use dry spray shampoo and baby wipes to get anywhere near a proper wash at the moment and my informal carer is back at work full-time as of this week, she said she'd try to hurry it up... I hope she can!

My mobility scooter has sort of broken so now I'm stuck in the house :( I didn't realise I'd miss my daily 'walks' with my dog.. Also means I have to take it back the the place I bought it tomorrow which is a 50 mile round trip that my mum really doesn't need so I feel quite guilty, but I've got to have something done about it this weekend as we're going to the Knitting and Stitching show at Ally Pally next weekend and I neeeeeeeeeeeeeed it :( Here's hoping they'll either give me a new one or repair it there and then.

Hope its sorted really fast and you can enjoy your outing. Dont spend too much there. Suspect that could be hardest part out.

Haha, yeah, although ESA are being extra EXTRA sucky (have given them proof I DON'T have £12,000 savings but even the £20.xx a week they said they were going to give me hasn't come) So I'm super broke, luckily I don't need anything from there and I'm mainly going as it's something my mum wants to do.

I'm really !!!!ed off that it had to happen now as I was hoping it would be a day out where my disabilities wouldn't mean massive changes or disruption to the day like usual but it looks like there will be; I feel so bad for my mum, it's supposed to be her birthday treat.

The company who sold me the scooter don't rent them out, there is one company in my local city that might do but even then it needs to come apart and my mum needs to be able to lift each piece as we are going on a coach and the coach driver can't help due to health and safety

Last resort is either buying or renting a wheelchair but that is very last resort because I can't self propel for very long and mum has joint problems of her own so couldn't push me all day. I'd consider buying one (don't you just love fathers with massive credit card overdrafts!) as I'm more likely to get something which requires the least amount of effort possible so would make the day much easier, and I was considering getting one anyway.

I guess I'll just have to see what they say at the store tomorrow.

Oh, and what really gets to me is that they didn't provide me with a manual and when i eventually found it online trying to fix the problem I'm currently having, it says it must not have contact with rain or freezing temps so shouldn't be stored outside, so in theory I'm house-bound on any damp day (so 80% of the year) and can't store it outside in winter. None of this was said to me when I bought it. Urgh. Another issue I will have to get them to deal with.

Sorry for the long reply, very frustrated at this situation right now.

*frustrated sigh* Anyone on the thread with HMS/HEDS near my area who can recommend a dentist who'll treat people with it? I can't find one who will see me once they hear the list of health problems and medications I have, and one of my back teeth, which Manchester Royal Infirmary's maxillofacial department were supposed to remove under general anaesthetic 18 months ago, just broke in half. x_x

Not your area I dont think but situation sounds familiar. My health issues scared dentists too. I got chucked off a couple of lists as short notice cancellation due to health. eg colapsed outside etc. I had the wonderful suggestion given to me of the special needs dentist. I asked GP to refer and its been brilliant. They give me extra time so I can take a break & meds as needed and finally after years of neglected dental work I'm almost sorted. It comes to something when we scare the dentist doesnt it.

What area do you live in?

I have a small scooter that comes apart that I inherited a couple of years ago, its no good to me and if you live nearby you can have it.

The above scooter was kept outside in a shed for the couple of years it was used and it still works as new today but scooters did cost much more then and maybe thats why its still going strong, today you see them so cheap I wonder how they make them so cheap, especially when compared to other powered mobility aids.

pm me if I can help.
