    Good luck

We had good news today the DLA renewed without any problems. I was screaming the place down when I opened it, long term award rather than indefinite but hey no tribunal. Feel safer and happier than I have in month, who know maybe I will get some sleep tonight.

  • Got my 'we've recieved your DLA claim' letter this morning, and got a letter through for a rheumy appointment on monday :D was expecting it to be months yet . How should I go about asking about fibromyalgia? I want a definate yes or no for once.

Hello everybody, hope you're all having an ok-ish day!
I have a referral to a local rhuematologist for HMS anyway (actually want another referral to a specific pain clinic which my GP said only a rheumy could do) and I was going to ask about FM as I have a lot of the symptoms. How do I go about getting a diagnosis (or definite 'no') without forcing myself on them? The hospital said that they got the letter on friday and the team would look at it on monday so I should ring on tuesday, but I wasn't given any idea about when I would get an appointment so it could be 10-12 weeks under NHS guidelines (or so my GP said). Either way, I want to go prepared. Any ideas?

Glad you didn't have to wait long for a rheumy appointment. Your appointment (if I'm correct looking at your previous post) to see the consultant is for HMS. I wouldn't have a clue about asking him/her about another condition. All you can do when you see the consultant on Monday is explain that you have these symptoms which you believe are similar to fibromyalgia and whether it is a possibility that you may have this illness/condition.

If you have seen this consultant before you will have some idea of how to approach the topic.
  • As I said before, I want a refferal (only a rheumy can do it apparently) to the pain clinic, but I also want all this niggling doubt to stop too. I haven't seen this person before, I've been at uni for the past 3 years so saw everyone down there. I guess I'll have to just go and see what they're like, if they're crap then there's no point stressing myself out trying to get answers. I guess, thinking about it, getting the pain under control is more important than knowing the name for the cause of it, so I should push for the pain clinic refferal

haha my dog just put his paw on the enter space and made loads of lines on this post; both cute and annoying at the same time. dunno what i'd do without him, he makes me smile :)

My GP wanted to refer me to a pain clinic a while back but when I saw her a few weeks later she told me that as a GP she was no longer able to refer any patient to a pain clinic as things had changed and only a consultant was able to do so now.

I gather that it was your GP who has referred you to the see the rheumy consultant on Monday? If so what was the reason for the referral? When you see the consultant on Monday you can go through all your symptoms and explain that you would really like to know what is wrong and perhaps say that you have wondered whether it was fibro.

Anyway, good luck with your appointment.

Does anyone here have torticollis / dystonia? That is the diagnosis I currently have for my neck muscle problems.

No, but someone I know does. You might ask her about it. Good luck!

Oh that's painful SH1305. I had it once and I was in agony. There was no one to shop for me so I was carrying a shopping bag, obviously in pain and not happy looking, a driver shouts to me "cheer up". I told him I was in great pain. I must have got one of those face that says "everyone shout at me"! Strangers on the street are always willing to criticize how I look without knowing what I may be going through. Does anyone have this experience? It's an equivalent to shouting to someone on a wheelchair "oi, stand up"

Anyway, were you given a muscle relaxant? Are you going to receive physio treatments? Keep your neck warm and one of those spongy collar may help you ease the pain.
Money is not the root of all evil.
It depends on how you obtain it and how you use it.

Have you sold your soul to the devil?
  • My mobility scooter has sort of broken so now I'm stuck in the house :( I didn't realise I'd miss my daily 'walks' with my dog.. Also means I have to take it back the the place I bought it tomorrow which is a 50 mile round trip that my mum really doesn't need so I feel quite guilty, but I've got to have something done about it this weekend as we're going to the Knitting and Stitching show at Ally Pally next weekend and I neeeeeeeeeeeeeed it :( Here's hoping they'll either give me a new one or repair it there and then.

They tried physio before - I had 2 sessions and they stopped. I was in more pain after the physio than I was before. I have now been recommended botox.

formaldehyde_perfume - I hope your scooter gets sorted soon.
