Sollin - do they not have district nurses that visit the home? When my mum worked in a residential home, nurses would visit daily to change dressings and other things staff weren't trained to do.

The home can't take Dad back, apparently he's on a trolley somewhere the hospital don't want him and the home has no nursing staff to take anyone with a catheter.

I can't even find out from the hospital where he is.

I think a complaint is definately in order!

Definitely! The way the poor man is being treated is... well, words honestly fail me.

Auntie Axe it's lovely to see you, but I'm so sorry life's being so unkind to you. I sure can understand about not having any fight left; I think that's how I'll be when they decide to pull the rug out from under me.
Have a ((('UG))) to be going on with.

Furries now all decluttered back to their respective owners, but it was great having them here - really made hauling my sorry a$$ out of bed in the mornings a lot easier!:o I think they enjoyed themselves too, which is, after all, what it's all about.;)

They do get occasional district nurses but as dad doesn't like anything 'medical' the staff are more concerned that he will rip it all out and hurt himself, in fact he's tried that already at the hospital.

It's not been a good day, they haven't got him a bed yet so he is still in an assessment ward, they believe he may have a tumour on his prostate but they can't do tests and scans until he is admitted to a proper bed. In fact, and i can scarcely believe i am saying this in the uK, if the assessment ward gets busy tonight they may even move him from his trolley to a chair.

I've had to come home though as I've had virtually nothing to eat and drink and I've got to start making decisions about getting to work this week. He's also getting very very tired and cross, which is not at all usual for him, and he keeps shouting and yelling at me to go away and leave him.

Oh, and if he does have a prostate problem the surgeons have already said they will not operate as he has a heart condition and other health issues which put him outside the safety guidelines.

Hello to everyone, I haven't been around here in a very long time - not on this new thread at all! Some here may remember me!! I haven't had a very good time healthwise and just recovered last week from second dose of flu with only 5-6 days apart! That hasn't helped the M.E. as my doctor also said when I saw her earlier this afternoon.

Anyway, had to come on now as many here I knew from the last thread are having such a bad time of things and want to wish you well.

cwta, so sorry you are going through it and having trouble with DLA! It is awful going through it, a few years ago I was refused and I went to tribunal and won. This happened on two occasions. I know it's so draining when you are ill and everything else is going wrong around you and you feel so drained you feel that you really can't face any fight. Please write to them (within one month of date of decision letter) asking for them to reconsider, and explaining your reasons. From my own experience beginning of this year - they did reconsider their decision after I sent them a letter!

soolin, I'm so sorry about your dad and the way they are treating him. I hope things get better for you, please take care of yourself.

singlesue, you are also going through it! Is it today you had an appointment at the hospital about your back? Hope you feel better soon.

    Hi to bigzippy and Lamewolf.:)

Hi to all the new people on here.
  • Yes Soolin, as Tobruk puts it so eloquently, please don't forget to take care of yourself. It won't help anything if you run yourself ragged and your health pays as a result.

LW, even though I haven't been on the site for ages, let alone the thread, you have often been in my thoughts and always are. There's nowt like dawgies to cheer up the soul is there.

Tobruk, I really do appreciate your kind words - it's support from friends that's helping me get through this at the moment as I feel pretty destroyed. Have spent the day hard at work on the phone gathering resources and evidence.

For those of you who remember her, s/e spent 90 mins on the phone to me this afternon talking me down *g* . My tone of voice is now more in a normal range, so not just dogs can hear it *g*

Thanks Tobruk...yes it was today and it has left me in limbo land to be honest.

The arthritis has worsened in my spine a tad but not enough to explain all the pain I have been having, the nerve canal is fine and not impeeded but there are a couple of discs which are 'aged' and lost their fluid (??) from what they could see and bearing in mind what my back has had to go through (repeated hard kicks to it, slipped discs etc), it is in surprisingly good condition..obviously not perfect but not bad considering.

So he is going to recommend a referral to a Rheumatologist as several joints are involved and not just my spine and because of my history of hypermobility and arthritis. He is also recommending a referral to a neurologist (any idea why he would do that people?).

So I am pleased (in fact over the moon) that there is nothing horrendously wrong with my spine apart from the arthritis I already knew I had and a few dodgy discs that have 'aged' but feeling a little eeek about still not knowing what is causing the problems.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

  • Just had a big argument with ESA - somehow they completely balls up my claim and until I can prove otherwise they think that I have something like £12,000 of savings:eek: This means that I will only be getting £20.85 a week until they take their finger out of their bum and decide to backdate me what I am due. I don't know why I bothered changing from JSA.. Well, actually, I do know and I should have switched but let me making these sweeping statements because I am very angry.

Ok. So, rant over. Back to normal now :)
