Hee! Isn't he just? He wears me out, mind you. Fortunately, I have a sort of joint custody arrangement for him with a friend of mine, so I look after him while she's out of Manchester and when she's here, she has him (she commutes, sort of). I think if I had him all the time I wouldn't be functional, he's got so much energy.

    But the cute! *melts*
Ah, what you mean is he owns both of you!:D

ella is shared between me and my mum and dad she was never supposted to be, ella thought diffenrent and is a right daddys girl the full plate of chicken twice a week helps i bet lol ,

they often happyly nab her for walks funny enough they didnt want me to get a dog now they would hate to not have her around now , they had her for the weekend i went away and didnt want to give her back lol

mum was bitten as a kid so was never keen on dogs or even el till she was out of puppy stage, she normally would stay out of the way when she was around and slowly come around to her charms mum sufferes badly from mental health issues aswell but i really think el is the best thing to ever happen to me and mum things so too , so much so shes promised me no matter how bad i get she always has a home which was a major worry of mine

a dog makes you get out of bed when life wasnt worth while before and when walking wasnt so bad excerise wise was fab i do think my mental health better because of my little star , best medication ever , hard not being able to do everything i want to but aslong as she is happy and loving life

I lost my elder cat today...we are all absolutely heartbroken.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

    Thanks guys...

She went downhill so quickly, we only came back from holiday on Saturday afternoon, picked her (and younger cat) up from the cattery Saturday evening and she seemed fine....quiet and a little thinner but ok. The quietness I didn't really pick up on as being a sign of illness as she always went into a strop for a few days with us at being put in a cattery and she ate and drank fine.

It was only very late on Sunday night/Monday morning that she started to show signs of not being too well, so early Monday morning we were at the vets as an emergency as she was really struggling to breath (mouth was hanging open to breath, not a good sign in a cat). She was initially diagnosed with heart failure and fluid on her lungs and the vet could feel some kind of mass attached to her gut but her breathing was so poor they couldn't risk doing x rays as the sedation would have killed her.

Late Monday, they were able to drain some fluid from her lungs and tested it and they discovered she had an infection, so antibiotics was added to all the other medication she was being given. This allowed her to pick up enough by yesterday morning to be sedated for x rays....and the whole bad story emerged.

She not only had heart failure and fluid on her lungs but also numerous tumours all around her body. One lung was completely solid (they think possibly another tumour), the other filled with fluid so her lung capacity was minimal, her heart failure too severe and with all the tumours, it was decided that rather than trying things to keep her going, to just let her go in peace.

The vet said it was the worst set of x rays she had ever seen and couldn't quite believe how Tiah was still with us and whilst in the cage and not being able to move around at the vets, not too bad really. But, once taken out of the cage and being brought to us, she had already started to struggle badly again, which only got worse the longer she was trying to move around (she was still trying to jump off the vets table!)

Neither the vet or myself are sure if she passed away peacefully on her own or if the very slight amount of injection did the trick.....the vet had barely started the injection (not even an eighth) and she was gone.

Poor Tiah had such a hard start to life, she was a rescue cat that had been picked up in a very poor state and heavily pregnant...they had no idea how old she was and could only guess at between 1 and 2 years but they couldn't be sure as her condition was so poor initially (she was left partially blind and deaf because of it). With us though, she grew into a very healthy and vibrant cat who loved her food (although we never did get her out of the habit of pulling the bins over and trying to eat from them) and for eight years, apart from normal cat costs, she didn't cost us a penny.

Then late last year we had a charity Father Christmas going around the streets with music blaring and Tizzy happened to be in the front room window when it got to our house, I have seen a cat so completely scared out of their wits as she was that night and from that moment on, she started getting things going wrong. January she was up with a water infection, July with an abscess on her leg and the in between times, losing a little weight (nothing major and she needed too!) but generally being a very stressy cat. In the last 6 weeks, she had been to the vets 3 times including her annual check and vaccinations, the annual check only being 3 weeks ago...how was it missed? It was only 6 weeks ago I took her up for breathing problems (it was put down to the heat and the fact she had the abscess) where her chest was listened to several times over the next couple of weeks and each time, it sounded fine.

I just wonder if I could have done more to have stopped some of her suffering although she certainly didn't appear to be suffering to us humans looking at her...the cattery pronounced her to be in good spirits and eating well while they had her too, even Saturday night after bringing her home from the cattery, she was jumping up to her normal perches and play fighting with our younger cat!

On a disability related thing, went up for physio today and apparently is was yesterday.....hmmm, I put the appointments straight into my phone when it is being given to me, I read out the details to the physio as a check so goodness knows how that happened, I even remember the physio saying Wednesday!

    So true!

I used to dog-sit for my aunts little westie and it made so much of a difference to both my mental and physical health, my mum always hated dogs but having Casper really warmed her to them slowly. It took about 4 years of having Casper when my aunt went away before I brought up having my own dog, and even then I didn't think she'd say yes but she realised the health benefits for me so I finally got one for my 22nd birthday a few weeks ago :D He has his problems, but he's the best ever, seeing that cute little face lights me up inside every time I see him. :T
