Nothing but idle gossip, unfair press and technophobia!
When you pay by paypal your purchase is protected anyway!!
Scams only work on stupid people!
I've never had even one bad experience buying on ebay, i've bought over 600 items!
These include 5 laptops (which I refurbed), a mountain bike for my ex (the seller was a Police officer), a stainless steel fridge freezer (paid £270, £750 in shops), a cooker (paid £160, £560 in the shops), a microwave oven (paid £60, £280 in the shops), an indesit moon washing machine (paid £135, £300 in the shops), a hoover (paid £45, £180 in the shops)...... Yes most had minor scratches which can't be seen (slight seconds), but they're still going strong now!
When I moved into this house I brought a ton of stuff online, I saved well in excess of £3500!!!
Even more if you include the SCS sofa's I bought from a distribution warehouse (found online), a place where they keep furniture which the customer orders but changes their mind, this is then normally shipped out to Europe.
These were in SCS at £2200 for the two, I pad £750 and didn't even realise that most people haggle on price.
With Ebay, only stupid people should worry.... If something seems too good to be true then stay away, because it probably is!
The retailers want to keep us away from the internet, they subtly spread rumours and horror stories to keep us compliant.
agreed i have bought and sold cars on fleabay and up to now not had any problems most recent being 2 weeks ago, there are just as many scammers using autotrader etc,for example when i was looking recently on autotrader there was a 56 plate bmw 530d with full history 1 owner and 40k on clock seller wanted £6500 for it,only problem no phone number just a gmail address to contact them!
in my opinion ebay is a good tool for buying and selling so long as you got some common sense,if you are the sort of person to get tucked up on ebay you are the sort of person to get tucked up anywhere.0 -
the amount of cars he has sold on ebay and not listed as a trader or buisiness, suggests that he could be pocketing a decent amount of TAX FREE cash i thought this was illegal? not putting his name on the v5 means that the registered keepers are kept at a minimal. plus if he's buying at ebay/roadside he doesnt want the hassle of waiting for the v5 to become available in his name to resell it and add a named driver to it.
quick call to trading standards OP could be in order. and hmrc for tax evasion.
he may also have another ebay profile in wich he buys the cars at keeping his feedback separate from his sellers account buying a few small items on his sellers account will give the illusion its his sole account.0 -

Are you on drugs?! I had £4k CASH. Your feedback has holes all over it - IDIOT!
Sounds like someone went with the old "i've bought all I could get, is £3800 enough?"
(Which is just the sort of thing my step-father would tell me to do when going to buy a car)
and then the seller's gone like "omg !!!!!!, we agree'd a price! no!"“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Hello everyone!!!!!!
Thanks everyone who has still been replying to this thread - I've had an eventful time since the car episode and even a labour scare (as we're due on 15th) :j
Just read through the thread since my last post and have selected a couple of remarks to reply to for now - but don't worry, if I have not mentioned yours as they ARE ALL APPRECIATEDDid you buy the car, OP??
No - phew! Will tell you why below.............or did he take National Express?... Ah I think we have a winner, that's the problem, say no more!
Very nearly!!!lol We did a swap over on the way there and we boarded a bus that wouldn't have been out of place in The Flintstones movie!!! :rotfl: Thanks sassy though for keeping the humour injection going on this thread - give pixiechick a few leaves outta your book!pixiechick wrote: »though I'm not holding my breath. He asked for help on his previous (first) thread and then didn't bother to let the people who helped him know what happened. Selfish and self-centered are the words that come to mind.
pixiecchick, I feel sorry for you that you have to keep continually attacking - especially after me asking you not to, but hey if that's the type of person you are then so be it. I'm sure you're a marvellous wonder and bit of excitement at Christmas times
I do not have to justify myself to you BUT we have had a labour scare past few days and have only Monday settled back into our home, waiting for the actual labour to begin. This thread totally escaped my mind.
If you could kindly instruct me how to close a thread then I'd do so - in the hope you can get a better nights sleep!......
Even gave you a thanks - as noticed you were after one. Maybe should take it back now?!!!!!!!hahaha
Now, onto what happened!
I, with 38 weeks pregnant partner in tow (probably not my best idea recently :undecided) travelled from Liverpool to London on the Monday at 0900. After travelling from coach station, faffing about and then through tube (via bank to collect £4k) we FINALLY got to Ilford, Essex and the guys address at 1930
He hadn't arrived at the address at that point - which played to my advantage as it gave us time to check over the car w/o the pressure of the seller being there. The car had a ding on the boot, 2x cigarette burns on the passenger seat (remember all seen through closed windows), steering wheel well well worn and missing its boot parcel shelf. Couple of slight marks on body which would have t-cutted out.
What annoyed me was the guy and myself had had several conversations and EACH AND EVERYTIME he told me it was showroom condition. Absolutely mint like it had been driven out of the factory! Now even I'm not that naive but if a guy says something is MINT and it has things that are going to cost money to repair/fix/replace then it's not mint......
We told the people at the house we were leaving and did so. We walked to the high street and stopped to give my partner (little trooper that she was that day) a good, deserved rest and to wait for the call from the guy - when he got to the house to find us not there.
He called and I said I was 2 mins away and could call back around BUT I WOULD NOT BE buying the car as it was not as described. He then agreed it wasn't as described BUT could fix the errors IF I stayed local to give him time to correct the faults!!!!!!! Well that incensed me further as how could someone have the ignorance/arrogance to expect someone to travel 220+ miles for them then to put themselves up/give the time for him to correct something that wasn't originally mentioned?
Liar totally and I said so too...... I then told him to recall when the wasted effort was done to him in relation to him buying a car (on his left feedback) and he said the honourable thing to do would have been for the seller to reimburse his costs - surely he should do the same for me?! Wasn't expecting him to but what's good for the Goose is good for the Gander!!!
As we'd booked one way tickets (expecting to be driving back) we were then stranded in Ilford!!!!! _pale_ :wall: Luckily enough I have a cousin who lives in Newcross, London so we arranged to be put up there that night and booked our return coach tickets for the following day.
Heard nothing from the seller for a few days then he started a barrage of texts stating he was going to take us to a court for reimbursement of his costs. This is all after I was back home now and couldn't go around to discuss his new-found arrogance and threatening manner  I told him I would comply with any ebay mails which would help return their fees to him.
I left him a negative feedback to take into account our wasted effort, journey and cost (which came to under £100) and he then HAD THE AUDACITY to leave the following feedback:

IT IS NOT MY FAULT IF YOU WAS SHORT OF MONEY, HOW CAN I GIVE THE ITEM?
This is despite us having the £4k cash on us and proof if we needed to for ebay or any court in the land
He left a postive feedback for me with a negative (conflicting) statement saying I tried to pay with FAKE MONEY, WAS THREATENING AND ABUSIVE!!!!!! :rotfl:
He then filed a non paid item dispute and I called ebay who said they could only remove once I'd had a strike issued. I got my strike and his negative feedback disappeared also! I then called ebay who removed the strike and voila! - his negative feedback reappeared. I had his feedback removed.
Ebay has also sent him a warning regarding his feedback and selling habits (re: descriptions).
I then started to receive a load of abusive texts saying I was going to get my head kicked in etc!!!! :rotfl:
SO SO happy I didn't hand over my cash to this ebayer as he's a bit of a div (I'm being polite as I'm happy about our impending birth!) and he text me to also say he sold the car, the new buyer didn't moan once AND even gave him more money (over the £4100 I think it ended up going for) as he was that impressed!!!!!!!pmsl NEVER heard of anyone paying more.......
Lesson learnt I guess. We are please to report we have now bought a 57 reg Fiat Punto Grande, Ice Blue, IMMACULATE condition, 1 lady owner with 10700 miles on the clock. Paid £3800 for it so very very happy as we already have a 59 plate Grande Punto (know what we're buying) and as the seller lived less than 1/2 mile from FIAT dealership, they HPi'd the car for free for us :T
Thank you thank you everyone who has patiently read through this thread and especially those who have given advice and constructive criticism (even negative comments from pixiechick! :kisses3:), it has been a lesson learnt and thankfully one I will not repeat....
Will keep checking this now to see if I can reply further to anything that pops up
Bye for now,
Stephen :beer:0 -
That's awful Ste!!

Yes, I agree there is 'something' which he is upto BUT he's stated on few texts to me the address he told me to attend is not his own. It's his aunties and he lives in Croydon (apparently with 17 cars on the front - whoopee do!haha) So unfortunately he's one of those slippery snakes that lets trails run dry when you delve deeper....
I told ebay he was a trader masquerading as a private/personal seller yet they said he hadn't met the threshold to upgrade his account so was breaking no rules with them......Strider590 wrote: »Wasted effort! Travelled 250+ miles & £96 out of pocket due to sellers mislead!!

God no!!!!! I had £7.6k for a car and insurance so had the EXACT and correct amount to the penny. Hopefully my expaination above has explained it now
I am very honourable when it comes to purchasing and love to protect my ebay feedback. Have one neg and was GUTTED when I got it. Had sent out an item to someones address. They were new and hadn't filled in their address properly. Didn't receive item and hastily blamed me0 -
