URGENT - Bought a car on ebay but something amiss?

He may be dodgy but as he still has it for sale, and the fact that low mileage ones, say 60k miles, are priced at nearer £7500/£8000, it is obvious that the bloke is a trader, going by his grammar he probably isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, but to be honest, a car with that number of miles is expected to have signs of use, that is why it is worth less, the seller did himself no favours by saying it is showroom condition, but then showroom condition isn't really a description, but for a three year old high mileage ex fleet car, a few fag burns and a small dent would actually mean it is in fairly good condition for the age and miles.

Some people think they know what a car is worth after asking their mate what it is worth, there is no way £6200 minus £3000 for miles is an accurate retail price, maybe an accurate trade price, but by definition that would be the price you would hope to get it for at auction.

In reality, car prices are at a higher level than in most trade guides, due to reasons of supply, and the loss of cars to the scrappage scheme.

I still think the OP was being unrealistic, the car probably cost £16k new, three years ago, it has full history, known ownership, the trader could have got the fag burns seen to for about £100 and had the small dent on the boot sorted for another £100 if it would repair with a SMART repair, but being realistic what do you expect for £4000?

I still think it is a reasonable deal.

I don't live far from him and am almost tempted to view it to see what condition it is really in.

Just because I don't blindly take the side of the OP, doesn't mean I am the seller of the car on eBay.

I do have experience of selling on eBay, full of bargain hunters that wouldn't know a reasonable buy if it bit them on the !!!!,
never mind the OP now has a Fiat, that won't break down much.......................
  • So the OP bought a car, completely unseen, worth only £3200, for £4100, located many miles from where they actually live, and is now having second thoughts. Why doesn't this surprise me???
