I understood that they had simply agreed not to sell it below price of duty plus vat, which an earlier poster said was around £1.99 for this one. Not sure cost of duty and vat on the value champagne brands they sell for £10 and £15 but it definitely shouldn't work out too much to offer the next priced substitute.

Just done a very quick search online and don't have access to any definitive figures, but based on what I read, shouldn't the cost of duty and vat on any value substitutes be a few pounds tops? (Duty around £2.16 plus vat?)

Hey the cost of duty plus VAT for wine and or sparkling wine/champagne is £1.99. They are just making excuses it seems, but hey ho, you win some, you lose some!
  • My order arrived late but I did get the 12 bottles of champagne I'd ordered so many thanks to the OP. What a brilliant deal.:j

I am so pleased for all that received theirs but am really angry that for some reason my store felt within their right to not sell me it at that price, saying the were not allowed to, even although it was clearly showing at that price!
It is now in the hands of a manager but I do not hold out much hope as they will all be sold out by now. My delivery was supposed to be first thing this morning!
  • That does seem unfair Twinkleyeys. Where is your store? Would it help to quote other stores who had honoured the deal? Mine was in Park Royal in London if that helps at all. Hope you have some success, even with a substitution if this deal is sold out.

Don't suppose you are anywhere in Central Scotland perchance? I had no joy myself with local stores.

I got some in Clydebank today - they were out of stock on my online order but the shelf was full in store and was still priced at £24 something. Went through checkouts at £4.97 - am so pleased and cant wait to try it! Cant be any worse than the cheap wine I sometimes drink! :D

EDIT - Just to note i bought 4 bottles so there were two rows of them. Imagine there must be 8 or so left on shelf and dont see them selling out too fast if it's still showing full price.

Oooh. Thanks. What time did you buy at? It is just someone said the prices had changed back in store, as in them no longer going through at the £4.97 as of this morning. I'm hoping you bought later in day? Not sure if I should ring them and reserve or if that would alert. It's a wee bit of a distance from me but worth travelling for champagne!

Edit: That's a bit suss them being out of stock for the online order but having a shelf full of 'em in store, eh?
