I understood that they had simply agreed not to sell it below price of duty plus vat, which an earlier poster said was around £1.99 for this one. Not sure cost of duty and vat on the value champagne brands they sell for £10 and £15 but it definitely shouldn't work out too much to offer the next priced substitute.

Just done a very quick search online and don't have access to any definitive figures, but based on what I read, shouldn't the cost of duty and vat on any value substitutes be a few pounds tops? (Duty around £2.16 plus vat?)

Just wanted to say a massive thank you to the OP I managed to get the last 5 bottles in the Crawley Asda store yesterday after reading this thread, I rang first to check and they didnt believe me until the manager scaned it! They put the bottles behind customer services and I picked them up an hour later.

Going to be part of the thank you presents for our wedding in Jan. :j

I noticed it isnt coming up on website this morning, shame I was going to ring a few other stores.

She just spoke in an aggressive manner as if i did something wrong, didnt offer an appology, was spoken too with an attitude , didnt even say sorry or nothing.

Just felt like i was spoken to like a naughty child didnt like be spoken to in such a manner, was my first order with Asda but least this has taught me that to never shop with Asda again.

I dont care about not getting my order as just knew it most likely would happen , but i dont expect to be spoke to in such a bad manner as if im trying to scam them or someting.

That sounds dreadful. All you did was order something from their website, at a reasonable price. Threshers used to sell this champagne at around £9.99 so the price, whilst good, is not outwith the realms of possibility, especially given the rollback signs in store. It's terrible when you get such poor customer service.

Showed up with my order but no champagne and no alternative offered. Called up and they said the champagne should have shown as out of stock, but they couldn't say why it didn't. ..

They have probably taken them off the shelves and will suddenly appear again at full price. What's confusing is the roll back price signs, that doesn't seem to tie in with a glitch, more a reduction.
