O2 now putting data cap on ALL existing customers

Had a text from o2 to say that the unlimited data aspect that applied to existing iPhone customers have is being withdrawn from 30 sept 2010 and in a change to contract which they regard as minor !!
They haven't wrote to me yet about this - i am so upset with O2 recently - my iphone broke down 8 months into my contract (in fact it was faulty since i got it in december but they manage to persuade me that all is fine) - i am still being charge £35 a month and haven't got much reception or data coverage on my phone - apparently it was the area which i am in but when i am in central london - nothing change. i recently downloaded the new OS and all my data was wiped off and the stupid iphone restarted every 5-10 minutes into a call!
This news is completely outrageous if it is true!'Never forget that only dead fish swim with the stream.'

The contract for the supply and maintainaince of the phone is seperate to the airtime contract.
Your Phone contract is really two contracts, once for the phone and one for the Airtime. Whist the phone is at fault and should be fixed under the phone contract the airtime contract is still valid and you need to pay for it. You could put the sim card in any other phone and use the minutes. The airtime side is to supply you with the ability to use the minutes but there is no clawback for you if you don't.
No mobile company will guarantee coverage in all places at all times,- apparently it was the area which i am in but when i am in central london - nothing change. i recently downloaded the new OS and all my data was wiped off and the stupid iphone restarted every 5-10 minutes into a call!

You seem to be mixing up the phone (and Apples OS) and any problems on that, and what is down to the radio network.
It sounds like the phone is faulty, send it back to Apple, or if you have one nearby book a Genius Bar appiintment in an Apple store and go get it looked at. Chances are it will be swapped there and then.
The phone not recieving a signal may be a network issue but as you say it's rebooting it seems more like a phone fault.0 -

The display iPhones in the Apple stores are on o2, so this is probably the best thing to do as the signal can be compared to the display models, if it's worse then Apple will have to admit there is a problem.I've given up trying to get my signature to work with the new rules, if nobody knows what the rules are what hope do we have?0 -

True but to be honest the OP could take it back saying the IOS 4 is causing the reboots and get it swapped too.
To be honest it sounds like a hardware fault, especially the reboots, it would suggest something in the handset is not initialising right and the phones rebooting to re-try the process0 -
Thanks for all your replies - i sent it in to O2 for repair over the weekend - I am hoping they will give me a new iphone but i doubt they will - I hope the problem will be fix. If i am unlucky enough and the problem continues, is it best for me to go into an Apple store direct? Is the warranty for the phone one year or during the whole duration of my contract (18 months)?'Never forget that only dead fish swim with the stream.'

Btw, , my iphone didn't reboot before i downloaded the new OS - but the reception on the phone has always been quite poor compared to my second O2 contract phone whch is a samsung. before i downloaded the new OS the phone was so slow that it freezes / crashes every so often, hence why i downloaded the new OS. is it still a hardware problem?
Sorry for all the Qs, i am not very technical and all these headache i am getting just confuses me even more...'Never forget that only dead fish swim with the stream.'

I just just had a web chat with an O2 customer service advisor and he told me that I would continue to have unlimited data until the end of my contract. He said that the data restrictions only apply to new customers.
In his words:
"As your account is from October 2009, you'll get unlimited data till your contract term, don't worry"
I'm still not sure whether I should worry though.0 -
Quick update - got my iphone back from O2 - and got a brand new replacement - they also confirmed that the unlimited data will not be taken away from me or any existing customers during the duration of our contract.'Never forget that only dead fish swim with the stream.'

Ah, but does that really mean "unlimited" as you want it to mean or will their "subject to fair use" clause trigger at round about 500Mb???
Wait and see and have your wallet ready just in case !!0 -
There isnt any written in stone fair use policy on o2 unlimited data, how i know?..I had a long conversation with a o2 customer service representative after they decided to cut me off because i had gone over 0.3gb in 2 weeks, to them i was using too much on my unlimited data bolt on.
Now you would of thought there is a fup on unlimited but nope theres no such thing...I tried my hardest to get the guy and hes manager to tell me what the fair use is but they blankly refused.
Thank god my contract runs out in oct  as i know o2 are getting very tight on data use so i can only see in the future many more like me being cut off unfairly.0
