O2 now putting data cap on ALL existing customers
Options
Had a text from o2 to say that the unlimited data aspect that applied to existing iPhone customers have is being withdrawn from 30 sept 2010 and in a change to contract which they regard as minor !!
And they think this is not a significant to my contract that my data limit each month is now or will be capped at 500 mb a month instead of unlimited.
This applies now to all existing customers ie those who took out contracts before 24 June 2010.
I am now 6 months into a 2 year contract and I consider this to be a major change to my contract. They don't!!!
Spent ages on phone with cust Svs who say that they are allowed to make changes and only have to give 30 dads notice if they change to my detroment vutbi then can only cancel contract if the change they make is a major change and they consider this to be a minor change
Where legally do I stand please as I feel cheated and that they have gone back on what they origially said which was that new and upgrading customers would go onto capped data plans and all existing customers would remain on their existing uncapped (subject to fair usage) plan

Get in touch with Ofcom (clicky) and their ADR scheme. In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0

The thing to bear in mind is that it is a "minor" change if you have never gone over 500Mb before. If you are a higher user, then this is a "major" change as it will cost you money.
Have you checked what your data use is?In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -

It would be good sport to inform O2 you are doing this. It might also save you from actually needing to do so as all these big utilities hate being reported to the regulatory bodies. If I've helped you please show your appreciation by using the "Thanks" button

Its still a major change either way, 2 years is a long time. So just because you didnt use over 500mb previously has no bearing as circumstances can change you may no longer have access to 'the wifis' at home or the office or both.
ClassyC could we have known his circumstances would change in X amount of months when he took the contract out.TESCO EVERY LITTLE change to the t&cs HELPS0 -

True, but OP has had the "brick wall" approach from O2 already so I'd get the regulator involved now to save time.In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -
this was common news a while ago. i looked up how much data i use before i bought my iphone. i feel like im on the internet all the time on it but found that i average about 240mb per month so 500mb isnt bad really0

The fact that the existing customer cappibg business isnt anywhere on the internet makes this hard to believe everywhere it says capping of data applies to all new customers and upgrades! Existing customers will cintinue to get unlimited data untill they upgrade0

Sometimes I wonder if I am abnormal for not being short sighted or narrow minded, as the O2 website is clear on the fact that for now it is sign ups since 24.62010, besides that as the other networks are doing the same (500mb cap) then I can't see where all the defectors are going to run to?
And just to add the site also shows
The vast majority of our customers use less than 500MB of data a month and we will text you the amount you have used so you can stay in complete control - these texts will start from October. If you need more data you will be able to purchase an additional data Bolt On again from October.0
