May i also add you may be consuming food on an unlicensed premises. Think there is a different license for consuming food on premises. Also there should be vat on some of it.

Can someone please explain what effect me eating a sandwich on that will be fully paid for and eaten with no mess left whilst shopping has on them?

It doesn't have any effect on people but what would you do if you fancied a ham sandwich whilst out shopping and they didn't have any? Would you open a loaf, some butter and a packet of ham and make your own? Where does it stop when it comes to eating whilst shopping?

It shouldn't come into question that you pay for stuff you eat just buy it, eat it then continue shopping.

If I fancy a few beers tomorrow afternoon with the lads maybe we should sit in the lager aisle in Asda and crack open a couple of crates of Carling, it'll be cheaper than going to the pub and it wont matter as long as we pay for what we drink when we stagger out at closing time.

    1. I get on well with the supermarket staff who know I would return to pay for it.

    2. Yes but I would never eat anything without intending to pay for it.

    3. Why is it scuzzy, chav and bad mannered? what effect does me eating a sandwich whilst doing my shopping have on your life?

OK lets create a little situation for you Here is X going around the shop eating his/her egg mayo sandwich because they just could not wait until they got home for fear of Starvation it has been 5hrs since they have last eaten you see:eek: anyways While X is inspecting the Beans and Sausages( good thing they didnt bring their tin opener with them ) some filling(from the sandwich) drops out on the floor, but oh dear x does not notice this and merrily goes about their shopping with their half eaten sandwich, now Z who is also shopping and just happens to be walking behind X does not notice the sandwich mess on the floor steps in it slips and twists their ankle, causing Z severe discomfort! Now ask yourself what effect did X eating a sandwich in the shop have on Z's Life????????

How do you know they are unlicensed?

Many supermarkets give out free samples of products that are eating in the store they may already have the licence.

Ok lets expand on your situation.

X is walking down the street to work and is eating a sandwich on the way some filling falls and lands on the pavement but oh dear X does not notice this and walks on.
Z who is also walking down said street does not notice the sandwich mess on the pavement and slips twists their ankle.

So by this reasoning you are saying people should not eat in all public places?

Without getting into it too deeply - they may well be licensed, but equally they may not (you don't need to be licensed to give out FREE samples (as I recall). Are you implying that people eat in the supermarket because they know the supermarket has a license...and that they wouldn't do it if a license could not be confirmed?

    I think not -!!!

Do you take a bite out of an apple before you buy?

Or cut a slice from a melon/pineapple too?

I am just playing devils advocate here because I actually don't think that what you do is the end of the world....but where do you draw the line?

No, but apples are cheap, I can pull a centre leaf out of a pineapple and I know how to tell if a melon is ripe, but grapes are very hit and miss (and quite expensive).

No I was simply stating that the supermarket may already have the relevant licence.
