    Good thread!

Have a look at this website - www.peopleofwalmart.com - some of them defy belief!

I used to work for a very old, very famous boys' public school - where they were taught manners and respect for others, as well as the national curriculum. Eating or drinking in the street was an albeit-minor disciplinary issue, which would earn the miscreant a rightful b*ll*cking. I'm not a snob or a prude by any means, but (apart from ice-creams on hot days or flasks of tea on cold days) I just find people chowing-down in the street really vulgar.

AND eating in cinemas () too - but don't get me started on that, or I'll get all wound up before bedtime!! ;)

Ok, one more go & then I'm taking my ball home.
There are things you just do not do in 'polite' society.
You do not push in front simply because you have a bigger car, want the red one before someone else snaffles it or the best seat on the bus.
You refrain from arguing in public.
You try to control your bodily functions as best you can & say 'excuse me' if you can't.
You keep a stronger control over your children & pets.
You ask before sparking up a ciggie when in a social gathering.
    You use civilised vocabulary.

At one time it was not acceptable to smoke in the street, let alone eat a sausage roll & that is why I find folk eating while walking around a supermarket disrespectful.

Standards cannot be reset once we have lost them.

Who decides what is considered polite? People have different opinions on what is acceptable or not. If everyone was as polite as you think you are then the red one would never be used and the best seat on the bus would remain permanently vacant.

P.S. A truely polite person would not take their ball home until others had finished playing with it:p.

Aww guys shy.gif..I'm flattered! Sometimes I do wish I could find a little corner of the world to live with like-minded folk, but that's not to say I don't enjoy a healthy debate either :D

I agree with MonkeyNut that there are times when 'just because' should suffice, but I also try to defend my actions if that makes any sense. I also accept that things do change & sometimes for the better, but again I do feel that isn't the case with this particular activity. I very much believe in 'live & let live' as I think I've said earlier in the thread, but I am also mindful of how my actions may have an impact on others whether I like it or not :o

I know there are times when
genuine immediate need cannot be avoided--as with Ailuro--& it doesn't matter how many contingencies you have in place for such an occasion, there is always that one time when things are not where they should be. You can tell the difference too as they are the ones racked with deepest embarrassment who are desperately looking for a free till!

I am thinking of those ads for a bank(?) where they tell you about showing the soles of your feet & that sort of thing all over the world, so I suppose the society you live amongst dictates what is or is not acceptable behaviour.

I do not think I am polite, I just want to go about my business with a mindful respect of others. If the red one has gone before it's my turn to be served, I have the choice to either:- a) choose another colour, b) go without all together or c) protest in a loud & vulgar manner reducing the sales assistant to a gibbering wreck, scaring small children & elderly ladies with the force of my anger & get arrested for breach of the peace. All I'm saying is I tend to choose either a or b :p

As to taking my ball home....my mum called me in to go shopping for her :rotfl:
